Or when the great sugar ray leonard drained the **** out of lalonde to a 167 pound catchweight for Lalondes belt at 175. I dont remember anybody bringing that **** up when it comes to those greats. Most of you newbys dont remember Sugar Ray draining the **** out of lalonde.
Absolutely, a catchweight is better than fighters moving down a complete weight class like Dela Hoya did against Pacquiao, the man looked like a holocaust victim at the weigh in, what a sad sight that was.
Never seen anything like it. It was obvious he had no chance after seeing that. Didn't he weigh in at 145 on fight night too?

The CW was 157...but BHop weighed in at 156....the master of mind games!!...that's all that was
GGG has a good number of followers...with Cotto being the lineal MW champ, he's linked to GGG so his followers gonna hate on whatever Cotto does...Cotto should shrink GGG down to 155 outta spite :lol1:
because people pick which catch weight fights they dont like. it is also used as a pre fight excuse. but there is a difference between doing a catch weight every now and then and doing them in almost every fight thats a fact. the reality is ever since people called out pac for using catchweights in a ton of his fights it started a **** storm. now everyone talks about every catch weight as though its the end of boxing as we know it even when the catch weights make total sense. but at the end of the day its just another tool for trolls to bash and discredit certain fighters or fights. When catchweights are done in good faith i dont mind it but then again it comes back to if youre a fan of said fighter or not lol

Because De La Hoyas Mexican/American so he got a pass. Only Puerto Ricans get picked on in boxing, pobresitos....
Geale weighed 158 for his title winning victory over Sturm. People are making too much of him making 157 for this fight. Some are too easily drawn into the antiCotto bandwagon.
Nah.... ODH made the undisputed (WBC, WBA, IBF & WBO) champ come down to 156 lbs and everyone was ok with that.
What you're saying is completely false. People did *****. Specially black dudes.
Anyone complaining about cw, shouldn't watch THAT fight! I don't like or hate them! If a fighter excepts those terms, that's on him.
Just don't complain after the fight. Only the smaller fighter/bigger draw can demand a cw. If Two fighters agree to a cw and one of them is hurting himself to make the weight, then maybe he should be fighting bigger guys anyhow! That just shows you how much these boxers fight for $!Not liking the terms of a fight and not watching that fight are two entirely different things that have nothing to do with each other. I hate that middleweight champ Cotto won't let his challenger weigh over 157. Geale has to agree or have no chance to become a champion. If it were not a title fight Geale could fight Cotto at 157 or even 151 and I wouldn't complain because both men agreed to the weight. Title fights are different and champions have no right to lower the standard weight limit for the weight class they are champion of. Cotto is still one of the best fighters in the world and he is exciting to watch. Of Course I will watch the fight and hope that Geale wins. That has nothing to do with me not liking the 157 pound Cotto weight.

Wrong.
There were a lot of people who made a point about it at the time (along with DLH's lidocaine injection).
The Hopkins-DLH catchweight doesnt get much talk after the fact because Hopkins made the weight easily and beat DLH easily.
It's not used by some people as a shining example of a fighter draining an opponent via catchweight because Hopkins is a physical freak and DLH didn't win.
What's this???
IBHOF Carlos Ortiz vs Kenny Lane for the welterweight title fought at 140 lbs catchweight?
OMG I thought that has never been done before doe!
because delahoya wasn't the lineal champion at 160?
Nah.... ODH made the undisputed (WBC, WBA, IBF & WBO) champ come down to 156 lbs and everyone was ok with that.
I remember Leonard draining Lalonde I have said on this board how terrible it was to let Leonard win a title at 175 by beating a guy not allowed to weigh more than 168. Again you have your facts wrong because the weight limit was 168 not 167. Leonard was the catchweight king back then and defended his 168 pound title at 164. Leonard was a chickensh*t and wrong to defend his title or win it at a catchweight. Cotto is just as wrong as Leonard was and two big stars doing the same type of wrong thing doesn't make it right. Certainly Cotto isn't the first to pull bullsh*t like this off but it is still wrong. Cotto deserves all the anger he is getting over this. It doesn't bother Cotto a bit. All he cares about is making the most possible money any way he can.
There's a difference between the champ willingly moving down in weight for a payday and a supposed champ at 160 only willing to defend his crown at catch weight. There's a difference between a champ draining himself and a champ draining others.
P.S Cotto is a puto, who disgraces himself and the latino race. Ask the ppl in PR that have met Cotto and they will tell you or his arrogance, inappropriate behavior, and now Diva like behavior.

Terrible examples Cotto is following. Shame on him.
Because it was the only thing the Floyd stans had to go on to discredit Pacquiao for fighting Cotto and possibly beating him, it was their built in excuse to discredit him.
Nobody cared about catchweights, until the Floyd fans started crying about it for the cotto fight.[/QUOTEx
My thoughts exactly!
The funniest thing about it was that... it was the Floyd stans trying to discredit with the catcweight and not the Cotto fans..
Chavez vs Sweet Pea was a catchweight too, btw.
From what i remember of that fight no one thought hoya had a shot at beating hopkins normally. General consensus was hoya had to be on point and hopkins off his game to pull that win. Difference here is people like to play the catch weight game and than pretend said fighter doesnt need it if they win. Thats why there is more of a backlash. It also doesnt help cotto is supposedly the lineal champ at 160. Hoya vs hopkins was being advertised as david vs goliath.
Not for the fans to complain because we're not the ones making the weight! If their opponents agree to and sign the contract to do it, then why the fuk are the fans b1tching about it like we're the ones that have to make the weight?
B-Hop did not cry about the weight, he made it and stopped Oscar with a body shot
