Manny Pacquaio is one of the greatest fighters of our era but their is beginning to be a change in the guard of the welterweight division
Welterweight is such a stacked division and filled with so many hungry fighters, I doubt Manny's body can take the punishment it will take to get into shape to beat those guys, even though he still possesses the know how and some of his explosiveness....he just isn't willing to take the shots necessary to defeat fighters who could possibly outbox him.
Manny made his bones at welterweight years ago against DLH in 08, Cotto and Clottey back in 2009-2010....but there has been a huge drop off in his level of opposition since 5 years ago.....in the past 5 years Manny has only defeated 2 top ten welterweights.....a 40 year old shane mosley who hadn't won a fight in 3 years and Tim Bradley who is good but hasn't done a lot at weltweight himself.
Getting kayoed in 2012, and fighting 2 no hopers in Rios and Algieri padded his record but neither were ranked weltweights......Bradley was at the time after beating Marquez, but what has Marquez done besides kayo Manny at 147?
After the loss to Mayweather, Manny is 3-3 in his last 6 fights.....he is still ranked highly but I don't think he deserves to be any higher than maybe 4 or 5
Manny is a great fighter, but add the fact that he is 36, and has a 6-12 months out because of his "injury", I think his days as an elite welterweight are over
He wrecks any brawler like Provo and Rios. He gets wrecked by any top welter or junior welter with the slightest of boxing skills like Thurman, Maidana and Crawford.
It all depends which weight Manny is fighting at. Is he fighting at Welter Weight (147), or is he fighting at Pacquiao WW (144), Manny WW (142), or Pacman WW (145). Maybe even he could fight at MannyPacquiao Super WW (150). So many choices.
Honestly this whole beat true welterweight thing is a silly arguement, people acting like Manny is fighting guys from Jr. Lightweight. He's fighting top fighters from Jr. Welterweigt.
I would much rather Pacquiao fight the best Jr. Welterweight in the world than fight the 6th and 7th best welterweight.
I could careless how many fights Ortiz and Maidana have at welterweight compared to Bradley and Marquez, they're simply a better fighter than both men, period point blank.
Simple fact is Maidana and Porter are no better than Algieri and Rios, if they fought all the fights would be competitive and at the end of the day that's what matters.
The only argument you can make for Floyd winning is if you score punches that touch the gloves and posing as an offense. Based of damaged done one man clearly won.
So you are ok with a WW beltholder never defending that belt against an actual WW? It doesn't matter that the 6th or 7th best WW actually built his career at the weight (most likely).
In order to get a WW title fight you think it's ok to just be a very good Jr. WW?
Manny fans really are something.
Its simple....maidana and porter actually are welterweights and are top ten and beat top ten guys
Algieri and Rios have done nothing at 147....maidana n porter are better welterweights
The only people who make an argument for PAC winning that fight are his camp, skip bayless and you...he clearly lost to may weather just deal with it... It wasn't even close

That's not what you said about Manny since that fight. What made you suddenly change your opinion?
Pacquaio has been wash up since that fight. What I said before the fight is Pacquaio is wash up that's why Floyd is fighting him after ducking him for 6 years once he was knock out he called Ellerbee lets make the fight
Manny can still beat a lot of guys at WW, but he is'nt beating Brook or Thurman. Actually at this stage in Manny's career I think they both kill him. Even at 140 he can beat a lot of guys, but TC kills him and I would even favor Matthyse over him at this point. Manny can't hang with the top two or three guys at 140 or 147 imo. So yeah. I think he is done as far as elite goes. Does'nt mean he can't win some meaningful fights and collect some paydays.
If I was handling him he would go on a 4 or 5 fight bum of the month club retirement tour.
No when he was knocked out by Marquez he was done as an elite

so losing to the number 1 p4p fighter of this era - in a competitive fight - now makes you a washed up journeyman?? lol :stupid:
No when he was knocked out by Marquez he was done as an elite
he's irrelevant at welterweight because the only opponents arum has for him at that weight are marquez and the winner of bradley-vargas. however, i don't think he's completely done, as i would pick him to beat crawford at a catchweight
It wouldn't make sense for Arum to pit Manny against Crawford unless:
a. He thinks Crawford wins.
b. He thinks Crawford doesn't have a prayer in the higher divisions and wants to get rid of him.

You got a point
It's sad that fans want to over hype fighters like Maidana and Porter just to fuel their agenda. Neither of those guys are any better than Rios or Algieri.
As for Pac's best days be being him, I would say yes but he still beat most of the top fighters in the division. He arguably beat Floyd who is supposedly the best in the division.
As for Pac vs Crawford, Pacquiao easily wins that fight. Crawford is okay but he's no future ATG and will be stopped as soon as he steps up. Beating lightweights doesn't prepare you for the best fighter of this generation, even if they are past prime.

I've been calling this for years. Arum won't let him
Or the IRS won't. I don't know but it's not like his options are so great that he should continue. A bunch of relatively unknown fighters at 140. Everybody else is with Haymon...what's left?
Will be back on regular HBO shortly. Gatekeeper status to follow.
If Manny is smart, he walks away now.
