Ali clinched more times vs Frazier in the first 2 rounds (FACT) than Mayweather did in 12 vs Pacquiao. And Ali is my favourite fighter ever before someone calls me a *****. Clinching is and important and effective tool to have at your disposal and I guarantee you that every great fighter was good in the clinch or initiating it at the right time! To the casuals its hugging but to someone who boxes regularly at amateur or pro level or has followed the sport for a long time; we know that it's unlikely anyone will throw at each other non stop without clinching. Embrace hugging it's here to stay.
Disclaimer: Excessive hugging is illegal and should be penalised, this refers to when a fighter is unable to even throw and there is no engagement between the two because fighter A doesn't want to fight.
Fun Fact: Devon Alexander clinched 119 times vs Marcos Maidana AND HE GOT WHOOPED BY MATTHYSSE
How comes all these boxers are so inferior that they let Wlad, Floyd & B hop clinch at will? I don't understand why they haven't got the know how to stop themselves from being clinched.
They are ill prepared for it? If you don't work on stuff like that in the gym then it won't be there on fight night.
Do you think it is impossible to deal with? Or do you believe if there is a will there is a way?
It takes offense out of fights to a degree depending on how a guy reacts to it. So it is understandable why people don't like it much, however if a guy is playing to win and it works like a charm it can't be neglected.
Guys need to know how to combat it better and not be lazy when it is happening.
How about deducting points? Heck, even a warning would be a start.
isn't that what the ref suppose to do anyways?
man i don't really mind clinching if you do it to survive (like if you get rocked)
what gets me is when boxers over use it or base their whole strategy on it.
I wish they could make the rule that fighters have a certain limited amount of cliches they can use per round.
like for example, a fighter is only allow to clinch like 4 or so times a round.
this would force fighters to think if they want to waste a clinch or save it for a better time or something.

I don't care if your name is Muhammad Ali I don't like excessive clinching. Doesn't matter who does it. And when I fighter I hate does it I hate clinching even more
Clinching is a part of the sport. But sometimes it is ridiculous. But really there is nothing you can do about it. It is just like the NBA where they really can't do anything about Hack-A-Shaq.

cause Ali also actually fought his opponents and KO em and not pretend that he was in a amateur fight:thinking:
not really man, hack a shack u cant avoid it or negate it,,with clinching its different,,if ur skill enough u can fight out of hit or power ur way out of it,,
if u want a g,reat example watch peterson vs garcia,,garcia was trinyg to clinch, alot and peterson said oh hell na and he fought thru it,,wat h the reply
I must have the reading skills of The Best Fighter on the planet. Learn How To Spell. I can't read a damn word of what you wrote.

Boxing's just seriously broken. They keep awarding constant clinchers and runners and even call it "defensive". It's called "avoiding the fight!"; clinchers and runners should lose rounds because of it! Boxing will never be taken seriously if they keep up with this sh-it.
I thought it was cheap when Ali did it heavily against Frasier too. I'm not going to defend it just because a beloved fighter does it. Sometimes, you wind up in a situation where you need to clinch to protect yourself. Guys like Mayweather and Hopkins gameplan the clinch. It drags down the quality of the fight.
I don't mind clinching if there's something exciting in between clinches. There are guys who clinch a few times then brutally KO you.
With Floyd you aren't really waiting for anything but the fight to be over so you can fall asleep without missing a potentially cringeworthy postfight interview. AKA the most famous moments in his entire career.
only ppl who cry about to much clinchering is people who favorite fighter cant ajust to those who clinh,,its not very hard unless ur paqioioa who just look a blank stare at the ref
Speel cgeck is a free tool bruh
