Do you guys think matthysse is big enough to fight some the guys at 147? Porter, Khan, Broner(could be at 140) thurman, mayweather? When i first heard this card i figured it was to hype a possible thurman matthysse but that don't appear to be the case. After watching last night I was thinking he looked like he would be a small 147 like broner was even tho he was fighting around 155 if im not mistaken. What do you guys think, can he fight at 147 successfully?
Makes no sense to me. He's already kind of small for 140, so why move up?
I think that Matthysse's previous fight with Danny Garcia has substantially aged him. He now appears more vulnerable than at any point of his career. For example, he looked like the weaker and smaller fighter in there against Molina; As his chin appeared much more brittle and his punches lacked the normal snap and pop on them as we are used to seeing also. Therefore carrying his power up in weight could be a real challenge for him as he is a small Jr.welterweight to begin with.
Matthysse has a HUGE problem and its not so much about him, but the people around him. His manager is a fool, his corner didnt know how to take care of him, Cuti has no idea of how to advice his boxer during the heat of the fight or plan a sound strategy. To make matters worse he now has that scumbag Latigo Coggi in his corner!
Mark my words, you put Matthysse to train under Robert Garcia like Maidana did, and you'll have a monster in the 140 destroying everything you put in front of him. With good strategy, Ariza taking care of the power and stamina, man, that would be something. With his current team I just dont see it working and its a shame.
He got clocked by a massive puncher in Molina, people seem to forget Molina is 5'10 and 1/2! he's no small guy heck if he wanted he could move upto 160 with his frame and cause havoc.
I think Matthysse should test the water 147 with a tune up in someone who can stand his ground, then we will know if his power carries.
Power is very strange attribute, its the last thing you lose, its not like he's moving up 2 divisions and if people who were 5'10 (Mike Tyson, David Tua) could cause problems in the Heayweight division why can't a 5'6 Matthysse do the same in a division where he isn't massively outweighed.

Ill never understand the logic of this.
The Man Came In On Fight Night At Damn Near Middle Weight
Who are these guys fooling man?
Both of them came in on fight night at damn near middleweight, they're drying out to make a smaller weight class, its clear these guys are not natural 140lbers.
and yet, WWs are being criticized for fighting 140lbers
no way man hes too small i hope he doesnt move up. He can still have some good 140 lb fights first, broner, lundy, zab judah rematch, vargas, khabib etc.
He looked exactly the same as he did against Garcia imo, but bigger opponents are harder to break down as they take punches better. Molina and Garcia are big JWWs.
hummmmmmm no. Molina was moving up in weight.

Agreed, Weebler.
Molina is almost 5-10 and weighed like 157 last night. He looked much bigger then Lucas but it said he weighed 157 last night as well. 17 pounds is a big number to rehydrate.
Majority of the fighters at 147 came from 140. I think he'll be fine. He's gaining a lot of weight after the weigh in and it could lead to him being sluggish in the ring. It may not be a problem yet but one could arise. I think his power would be fine at 147.
Maidana
Bradley
Pacquiao
Alexander
JMM
Rios
Provodnikov
Lopez
Khan
Broner
Mayweather
That's majority of the division. None of those men are that big and most recently moved up to WW (last few years).
Porter and Thurman are really the only two huge ww's that are in the mix.
LM isnt a big dude - and maybe his power wont travel to 147 proportionally. But he'll be competitive as he's a tough dude, will still have nice power and lots of heart.

well, i guess we might find out soon enough.
there are certain guys who would be better off not jumping divisions though. canelo springs to mind as well.
