Can anyone stand Teddy's fight commentary? I didn't mind it years ago when I first started watching boxing but I just watched the Mendez - Barthelemy fight and his none stop waffling has left me in a serious state of irritation. It almost makes the fight unwatchable. Thank god it only lasted two rounds.
Sometimes he can be a little too much, I think that Bernardo Osuna is a far better commentator, one of the best I've ever heard.
Bernardo's insistence on pronouncing every Spanish name with a heavy accent makes me laugh
Atlas is a G. Certified one at that. He has forgotten more about boxing than you have ever learnt. If you wanna identify a boxing commentator who shouldn't be one then look no further than showtimes ranallo.
I agree. Atlas is passionate and has a deep understanding of the sport.
I like him overall. He does like to talk about himself a lot during commentary, and his antics he used to do when he was a trainer were a bit ridiculous; but I like him because he knows the sport so well and is never afraid to call out the shady side of boxing. I met him at Friday Night Fights last year and he was cool as hell. He thanked me for coming out and said it was the fans like us that keep the sport going and keep him in a job. He was super appreciative to all the fans. After he went off the air he signed autographs and took pictures with people for probably 20 minutes.
This is lunacy. Larry and Jim? Ridiculous.
You don't have to like his style, but Atlas' knowledge is second to none as far as commentators go. Personally, I love his analogies, and his personality. Give me a 3 man crew of Atlas, Tessitore, and Kellerman any day over
Jim, Roy, Paulie, Amir and the sky/showbox whatever the UK networks are, etc
It's all preference. I'll take Jim, Larry and Roy over anyone else. As a matter of fact, they make HBO boxing. The crew over on Showtime are a disgrace, other then Al Bernstein. If you would have read my post, you would have seen that I clearly gave Atlas props for his boxing knowledge. That doesn't make him a good commentator
I hope he never said that. It literally makes no sense.
Yeah, maybe I've got a weird sense of humor, but there is a sublime randomness in your prose, Sir.
Besides, that is totally something that Teddy (or Larry after half a fifth of Chivas) might say.
:D
Give me a Saturday night, a big fight, along with Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant and everythings all right. Lampley's passion for boxing Is amazing and how can anyone not like Larry after telling Floyd he would kick his ass, and for all you boxing fans that aren't new to the sport or just recently started watching, how about the back and forth banter between Merchant and Foreman. Although, Atlas knows his stuff when It comes to boxing, he Is almost unbearable to listen to. IMO, Jim Lampley Is the best In the buisness and I actually look forward to hearing him when watching an HBO telecast.

Hahahahah! Awesome ! Did you just pull that out of your butt or did he really say that?
Atlas is the man. He's like Big George and Larry Merchant in that I think he's even awesomer when he's ****ing up.
WAR ATLAS!!

I've never really liked his commentary. "To break the guard you have to have the key, and the jab is the wet noodle to cook that makes the pasta a doughnut."

All the guys who like Teddy are over 40 years old, I'm just guessing but it has to be true. The guy is complete GARBAGE from an announcing standpoin, he is terrible and the reason I don't watch FNF anymore. I still watch if there are some young 0-3 loss guys fighting but when the main event is 25-5 vs 25-6 really... who cares? Teddy makes my already low viewership non-existent... I like Joe alot, I think he is one of the best in the business has a great voice, but Teddy is like sh*t on an ice cream sundae. I love me some Ice Cream sundaes but if there is a big pile of sh*t on it I'm not going anywhere near it.

He is a great commentator. Overzealous and annoying at times, sure. He uses horse racing analogies seemingly 2-3 times a broadcast. Most of the reason people hate him is because he absolutely shreds the Klitschkos (undeservedly at times) and also tends to slurp Floyd. If he called the Klitschkos co-GOAT heavyweights and declared Manny the best and Floyd a coward we would have 2-3 threads a week about how he is the best. You gotta respect a guy who allegedly held a gun to Mike Tyson's head.
Hes better than all those HBO ones with no training or fiting experience trynna argue with Roy or other fiters about weight making and other things that only someone who has fought as amateur/pro would know. These other guys have never sparred a round let alone fite as amateur in their lives talking about "ohhh beautiful left hook"....no lampley he slipped it.
Point is in other sports atleast the color commentator has played at some level at skool even pick up counts cuz its to be through those experiences to make valid assessments so i can become a basketball commentator with journalism or communications degree cuz i played pick up alot at the very least. Ive blocked, crossed get 3s and vice versa to know how it feels and to know THAT point of view.
Same cant be said about boxing. They should require atleast a handful of amateur fites to be a commentator for boxing as a respect to the sport. So the fans who havent boxed can be properly educated cuz i dont expect all fans to box.
I've never really liked his commentary. "To break the guard you have to have the key, and the jab is the wet noodle to cook that makes the pasta a doughnut."
:haha::haha::haha:

Hmmmmm I may agree lol. I love the combo of those two, call me crazy.
You crazy, although I don't rate the HBO broadcasters.
I'm surprised this many people think it is OK that Atlas chats away about everything and anything other than the fight right in front of him. Again you people really don't mind his cringey metaphors?
God damn stupid computer put my post up before I finished it. Anyway Atlas never fought any long hard fights so he should not trash the courage of pro boxers. He trashes good boxers that are not from the States like Pacquiao and Wlad and his fight predictions are almost always wrong. Now I am done trashing Atlas.
He did fight and was forced to stop due to a type of brain issue.
