Am I the only one who thinks that when fighter A doesn't fight fighter B, it isn't automatically ducking and dodging? I mean, every single fighter is apparently ducking some other fighter according to this forum. Cotto is ducking Sergio. Sergio is ducking GGG. Donaire is ducking Mares/Rigo. Mayweather is ducking Pac/Canelo/Martinez. Garcia is ducking Rios. Canelo is ducking Trout. There are so many more reasons why these fights don't take place other than "they're scared". Negotiations exists and fall through over weights, money, settings and network. Promoters beef with each other. Those reasons just makes more logical sense then a fighter being scared to fight. I mean it's their job. People tend to think that the most experienced fighters are the ones that are scared. Or the ones at the top are the ones that are scared. No. The guy at the top has no other choice but to fight lesser opponents than himself. And that guy has options of lesser opponents. If he picks option A, then he is ducking option B and C. I think it's retarded to think a person who works in an office, cooks in a kitchen, flip burgers at Mcdonalds, or whatever for a living can say a person who fights for a living is scared.
Edit..
When I say scared, I don't mean fighter's don't get scared as if they are not human. Every time before I spar, I still get butterflies in my stomach because I don't want to feel that suffocating feeling when a guy is pummeling you in the corner. Or I don't want to look stupid. And mostly, I just hate getting punched in the solar plex. I get scared and I know ALL fighters get the jitters before going into the ring. But what I mean is, when normal people with normal jobs are saying a fighter is "scared" as an insult, it just doesn't make sense to me. What also seems ridiculous to me is that when a certain fights don't happen, rather than going to thousands of other more sensible reasons, they go straight to the 3 words, "scared to fight."
What I'm trying to say is, being scared is not the primary reasons why a lot of fights don't get made.
There are fighters that are actually scared and duck fights, Ricky Hatton was a fighter who ducked his main rival like the plague when he was an up and comers, He knew losing to him would derail everything that he wanted so they took the easy way out by feeding him bums after bums until they fancies his chances enough to pit him again an inactive Tsyzu..
To answer the title question, no fighters technically "shouldn't" be scared but it happens.
Who was the guy that was scared ****less to fight Duran? He didnt even want to come out of his corner. Ended up being a highlight KO. Pretty brutal. What fight was that? SRS
When a fighter has the POWER to pick his opponents, and fighting those opponents make perfect sense, moneywise, rankingwise, and legacywise, yet the purposefully make excuse why they refuse to take that fight, it's a duck and nothing else.
We can say it was Atlas who ducked Wladimir, but it was really Potvetkin giving him hints he didn't want the fight. PERIOD.
Same goes for Roid Mayflower. He ducked Pacqioua.
Ward ducked Bute. PERIOD.
Bowe ducked Lewis.
The list goes on and on and on.
Yeah, these men make a living fighting, and losing to Bute would have cost Ward his p4p ranking, Bowe losing to Lewis wouldve hurt him, as would Roid getting starched by Pacqioua, but without those fights, those guys are chicken **** duck ass *****es....PERIOD.
No, there's some fighters who are actually scared of other fighters.
For instance Floyd was scared of Margarito, Pacquiao and a few others.
I think Garcia is scared of Mattyhsse.
this kid came in here gunz blazing like a fuqn idiot lol
Doesn't matter how you spin it, Floyd is scared of Pacquiao, 07 Cotto, and 07 Margarito.
And Floyd wanted 10 mil to fight either, blame Arum for offering only 8 mil. and I guess Pac was scared of Floyd when he walked away too right?

Being scared is part of being a fighter.
Fighting THROUGH fear of another man is part of being a fighter.
Not entirely true. Sometimes you have to lose all fear before you enter the ring because you can't fight scared. In this regard, being cautious is not the same as being scared.
Believe me, when Ali fought Foreman, he had no fear because his confidence erased any such fear. He could never have pulled off the rope-a-dope had he entered the ring with any fear.
Same way when Leonard fought Duran the second time. He already had taken Duran's best and knew Duran couldn't hurt him. He had no fear; he knew he could dance circles around "hands of stone," and did just that.
In fact, Leonard's key to defeating Hagler was his lack of fear. He could never have stood in the corner and exchanged with Hagler at the end of the rounds had he been scared -- he would have attempted to run.
SRR, Foreman, Fraizer, Hagler, Larry Holmes, Monson and other champs have never been scared or afraid when they entered the ring.
Mike Spinks was afraid of Tyson and looked what happened. Tommy Hearns had no fear when he fought Pipino, but was terrified when he fought Marvin.
As to this thread, Floyd was never afraid of Pac because Floyd was so much bigger. But that's the cost of being great. No matter who you fight, someone else is going to say you were ducking them and that you are afraid.
Because everyone writes that he was scared of Pacquiao , Williams , Margarito you get my point ?
Most people dont know ****. Ill listen to those that have access. I dont listen to the Troll Mafia. Thats the difference between you and me. You get my point?

when a keyboard warrior on NSB calls a professional fighter scared does it really mean anything?
Liston was possibly the most feared fighter in history. I'm not one to think that every fight that doesn't happen is a matter of fear, but to say that no professionals out there have any fear in them is simply not the case.
With that said, I respect anyone who gets into the ring. Having fear doesn't make someone a coward.

Every fighter has some trepidation when it comes to the top challenges but they already have a mental system in place to overcome it. When a fighter is scared of another fighter, that just makes him train harder physically and mentally.
good point even when u get in a bar fight there is some sense of fear of being hurt, but to calm down sit in the pocket and figure out how to beat the man in front of u takes skill!

Yeah and broner is ducking rios... Smh, most of these people arent boxing fans they are professional clowns who shouldnt have fingers...
Any pro fighter who does what these guys are doing, at the level they are doing it at deserves respect even if you dont like them.
No way you can get this to this level at such a pysically demanding sport being a coward.
Politicts, money, and greed are the reasons alot of fights dont get made...
Why is it with everyone else TR vs GBP rivalry come into play? But when it comes down to Floyd we over look that little detail?
Because everyone writes that he was scared of Pacquiao , Williams , Margarito you get my point ?
The classic line is a fat arm chair critic is calling a professional boxer a coward. A pro boxer even if he legitimately ducks another fighter still cannot be considered a coward.
Some of these "Armchair critics" are "fat," while others are hale and fit but lack the mental depth to understand the sport of boxing. Knuckle draggers who cheer if the fighter they don't like has a personal calamity happen to them that's unrelated to boxing. There are probably more mentally and emotionally challenged "fans" out there than anything else. And folks like that hold onto any idea as long as its shallow and as long as they can use it as a bludgeon against fighters they don't like.
What really gets me, is that some of the folks that traffic this site have jobs, children and responsibilities but you certainly wouldn't know that by reading their posts.....

100. Floyd is held to such a high standard even by those who hate him!!
A fighter is never scared they just don't want to lose after years of fighting you lose the fear take for example when a fighter is put down or the ref stops the fight their pissed as hell and want to continue. When an elite fighter fights a tomato can the tomato can isn't scared or he wouldn't be in the ring. I had 90 amatuer fights I was scared for about 10 fights than I lost the fear. When I sparred with professional fighters i was never scared to lace the gloves. I sparred with Tony the Tiger Lopez, Paul Banke, Richie Sandavol when i was 15 i wasn't scared. Mayweather for example Ducked fighters but his ducking isn't out of fear he just wants to protect that 0. In his mind if he retires undefeated he will consider himself the best of all time. But as fans we know better unless you have been duped by his masterful cherry picken.
