NFL player Ray Edwards has taken up boxing and will make his pro debut this Friday. His trainer says he is faster than muhammed ali and punches harder than tyson. He is 6 foot 5 and 270 pounds but he moves like a balerina . What does anyone know about this guy?.
I highly doubt Edwards will become a HW champion. Sergio Martinez started boxing at age 20 and HW is a lackluster division. But Ray Edwards will only be a part time boxer if anything. At best, I see a football player that will get smashed by any boxer with a pulse.
put both the Klitschko's in a dark alley with Ray Lewis i'll put my $ on Ray.
And if you put both Klits behind a chessboard with Ray I'll put my £ on the Klits.
Or we could just, y'know, stick them in a boxing ring together and you can bet all your no doubt hard earned greenies on the next American NFL sensation. Not sure how willing even you'd be to do that though.
heck if he was trained had the intangibles Lebron James would be HW champ today.
In other words if he was a different person who just happened to have all the right ingredients of heart, courage, determination, willingness to learn from his mistakes, unwavering faith in the face of overwhelming adversity (he might be facing Ray Edwards for all we know) and an iron chin. Heck, you may be right!

Yeah, it must be nice not to have to use your brain to form opinions. :)
I never stated you but if you throw out a blanket statement that we cannot criticize someone for making their debut I can ask the question why not?
especially a guy who has called attention to himself in the manner that Edwards did.
let's face it he isn't going to make this his career so there should be no reason why we need to assess what he may become because we all know the moment the NFL comes back he will be on the gridiron with boxing in the rear view.
so taken like that I think it only just to criticize what I see in front of me simply because I know we won't see him plying this craft to the point where we see a serious boxer in Edwards
I don't pay attention to self hype and other BS.
If guy wants to step into the ring I will treat him like a fighter and judge him on what happens in the ring.
That's why I was never over critical of Benavindez. Its too early to judge him.
He might jump straight back to football or he might stay. He said he'll do both. But i won't let that effect My opinion of him as fighter.
I think when your in the ring your like everyone else. Talk, hype etc....
That's my opinion.
But I understand your point of view.
I never criticized Rooney.
A debut is nerve racking for anyone.
Especially for a guy with limited to no amateur experience.
I don't think you can tell what a fighter really has until they fought about 10 to 15 times.
They need to get comfortable.
Some guys have that pedigree and talent out the gate,
Other guys need a good deal of seasoning.
and sum are bums.
It can be hard to tell the difference between the last two after there first fight. IMO

sure we can I mean how could we not? If we can criticize guys like Rooney Jr who made his pro debut on ESPN and looked less than stellar then surely a guy who hyped himself up as much as Edwards did should be subject to praise and criticism
he looked awful, like a big athlete from another who thinks boxing is a nice side job.

His first fight.
But i do agree that the Klits beat his ass whenever.

I know he's hopeless, but this type of thing should be encouraged. It draws attention to the sport of boxing because people want to see if he can actually beat trained fighters. The entertainment value of these matches can't be denied.
I disagree
in a sense it brings our sport to an almost afterthought sideshow quality. Guys like Edwards think they can merely step over, act like their physical prowess is enough to beat guys like the Klitschkos, then proceed to look awful in a fight against another guy making his pro debut.
that's not entertainment unless you enjoy the Charlie Z like atmosphere of boxing where delusion overrides reality
and if this was an entertaining curiosity I would think this would have played out on a bigger more grandiose stage and to much hoopla than the ballroom he fought in.

LMAO thats because you're a moron. Either Klit with one hand would rape Ray worse than that kickboxer raped Bob Sapp. I am also sick to death of Americans putting their tongues on Lebron's testicles regarding any sport they don't excel at.
"But, but, if Lebron played soccer we would have won all the world cups by now".
Think of how many European and South American WW and MW champions there would be if there was no such sport as soccer. These what if arguments are retarded and always come out of American mouths.

Edwards vs Williams
Gridiron vs Rugby
make it happen
Sonny would kill him.Sonny Bill is actually decent

Edwards is a knockout highlight waiting to happen if he keeps fighting. The entire notion that the best boxers are in the NFL/NBA is retarded.

lmao dude looked like ****. klit would knock him out with all his limbs tied to his back and his eyes, mouth and nose closed

Well he's a "power" athlete, so his explosive power and speed will likley be very good. In terms of raw skills he could be pretty good, does he have any experience of boxing? For all we know he could have been boxing training for half of his life.
Any decent boxer out there will be able to take advantage of his amateur sloppiness and the beginner mistakes that he will likley be making. With focus and determination he could make it, sure, but tbh it seems like he's just after the headlines and e-fame. He'll be exposed sharpish and will fade out of existence before long imo.

He was on First take today.
He said he was coming for the Klit's belts.
He also said he could do Football and Boxing at the same time.
There is no doubt that this guy has the potential to beat the Klitschkos.
