Bernard Hopkins, still boxing while working as a director of Golden Boy, Khan's, US promoters, said: 'I've never seen anything like this - a 23-year-old boy coming to America and turning on the speed, power and movement of the complete professional in his first fight over here. Incredible.'
Even Malignagi's promoter, Lou DiBella, raved: 'Your boy is great. So quick, so much power, such charisma. As a fan I would pay to watch him every time he comes to fight over here and I'm sure the same is true of every American who saw this live or on television. He's a star.'

The big thing is that this was his first fight in America and he handled the nerves issue like a pro. I was impressed with his reflexes, which are what allowed him to look so fast. Khan looked slow to me in this fight compared to his normal speed but his reflexes were right on point.
The thing I noticed as the fight went on was Khan's strategy which was subtle and simple yet so effective. He would just throw a follow up punch or two as Malignaggi always steps straight back or back with a lean and resets to throw a punch. Khan would throw that second or third punch that kept Paulie from establishing a rythym and it is all set up by that initial counter punch that Khan could land because of his quick reflexes.
He was very patient and I believe he could have wiped Paulie out in a few rds but wanted to focus on form and strategy.
Jones was only a boy of 24 when he beat Hopkins back in 93, one year older then Khan. Did he miss that "speed, power and movement of the complete professional?"
I don't see how 1 fighter can not challenge himself and get praise, but others fighters don't and get scolded?? Funny this Boxingscene.. As I recall qoutes from this site," all the talent in the world counts for nothing if you don't challange yourself", right? I want to see how long before he is shunned after all of this cum surfing.

as i was saying, the kid got potentials and works hard... i wont be surprised if he'll make it to the top... the kid is really improving. amazingly improved speed :boxing:
There's no doubt the other star here is Roach.
He's turning another no-name into a boxing superstar.
Well, Khan might as well take over after Pac/Floyd retires.
yea...a guy who was headlining major ppvs and filling venues is a "no name"
whatever.
Well said hopkins
bhop knows a lot more about the sport than any of these pathetic internet warriors, thats for sure
speak for yourself - rofl
Im speaking about you kid
No he is NOT. He is a WORLD TITLELIST. Khan will earn world champion status if he beats maidana.
Floyd was developed further because he learnt more about inside fighting after being school bullied by castillo.
Floyd showed his in fighting skills long before the Castillo fight. If that was the case then Castillo would have knocked him out or dominated him.
The only thing Amir Khan proved is that he can beat C class fighters with relative ease. Paulie Malinaggi is not a "player" in the 140 pound weight division. He's a tough lil dude with no punching power and terrible boxing technique.
Paulie keeps his hands low but doesn't move his head. That's two fundamental mistakes right there. Unlike Roy Jones and Muhammed Ali, Paulie does not have the lightning fast speed and punching power to erase his mistakes.
Paulie gets hit and can't return fire power, so instead he sticks his tongue out and hotdogs. LOL!
Any credible Jr. Welterweight dominates Paulie Malinaggi in similar or even worse fashion. When I say credible I'm talking Bradley, Alexander, Hatton (already whooped Paulie's ass), Peterson, Zab, etc...
Can Amir Khan beat a B level talent? I don't know. Lets put him in with one (maidana/ortiz) and find out. If he can beat a B level fighter than I'll starting getting hyped about Amir Khan.
How is Roach not addressing Khan's weaknesses? You can't address a poor chin. Thus you tighten and improve his defence...something Roach has done a remarkable job on. And his infighing skills aren't woeful because he has never been forced to fight on the inside apart from the Gomez fight, where he was still very green. Plus he gave as good as he got. I'm pretty sure once a fight with an inside fighter is made, Roach will work his gameplan, and put Khan in sparring with good inside fighters in preperation.
And golf has nothing in common with boxing...nothing.
When will you get into your head, that Khan is not a fully fleshed out fighter like bernard hopkins or floyd mayweather.
The REALITY is that the kid is 23 years old and is still developing.
He is a world champion ,not a prospect . He can only be spoon fed for so long and if he does not develop in fighting skills soon he will get found out. BTW Floyd's skills were all in there and developed at 23.

timba1988, I used to box and yes learning new skills is very similar between skill base sports. I was an amateur boxer before I was a golfer. How do I know Roach is not addressing it ? Very simple when Khan is pressured and pushed back he does not know what to do. Why? because he has not been trained what to do. If this is not sorted out and it takes ages to incubate infighting skills ,it is not like learning a new shot he will get found out in that area mark my words. This is not something the old cliche about game plans can fix. Only idiots believe that garbage. If you have a great game plan without the skills to back it up you are going nowhere. That is living in reality in the real world.BTW Sparring hones the skills but the skills have to be there in the first place. Sparring alone won't cut it.
Jorge Linares.... 22yrs, stopped Oscar Larios in 10 for the WBC featherweight title. A year after the p4p #1, faught Oscar Larios to a 12 round unanimous decision. In Las Vegas, Nevada.
Khan doesn't surprise me.
Then again, it's no secret I don't like him.
wazaa, It does not work like that. I play golf and the short game is totally different to the long game it may as well be a different sport. The infighting skills have to be in you on an instinctive habit level more so than fighting on the outside because you have less time to react because you are closer. You don't have time to think only react. There is a LONG lag time when learning new skills going from conscious incompetant to subconscious competant and believe me in close you don't have time to think ,those skills have to be OWNED and instinctive. Those skills and habits are not there and there is no way they can be learned and incorporated on an instinctive habit level without a long incubation period. No disrespect but the game plan theory is bullshit. Game plans are fine for fine tuning once you own the skills but in his case his infighting skills are woefull to non existant.
He has been warned about this by Barry McGuigan. I will try and find the video link somewhere. But Barry told him exactly what he would do if he fought him by going inside and pleaded with him to fix it because he will get found out at the highest level. It is those kind of changes I am looking for ,but all I see he is doing (Roach is doing) his best to work round his weaknesses not address them.

That was the 1st bout I witnessed with him. he was impressive... I want to see him against top fighters in the division... paulie was a good tune up, Great debut on US soil....
No one ever questioned his Talent and especially his fast hands, the only question is over his chin and thats still remains to be answered.
And i don't see how that win was more impressive than Hattons, both shut him out and totally outboxed him, both where clincal distructions.
Hatton out muscled Paulie, Khan out skilled him. Khan was like a surgeon with a scalpel, Hatton was like a nurse with a saw. Both won big, but Khan's victory was pure boxing and better to watch.
And a lot of people have questioned Khan's talent and skill. Some people still think Bradley is a better pure boxer than Khan, which I don't think is the case. And the question about his chin has been answered. He can't take a good shot. It's up to him to keep tight, and box his way to victories against the big hitters, or knock them out before they knock him out. I'm confident he can do it. He might lose a few along the way, but he will win a few big fights too.
I have to admit I wanted Paulie to win but I have nothing but respect for Amir.
His defense is much improved....he did some good things in there.
I like others noticed that he was uncomfortable when Paulie pressured him....Im sure Roach sees this to and will work on it because it will be hard for ANYBODY to outbox this kid he is WAY too fast.
Roach hasn't fully addressed that because most opponents Amir has faced since hooking up with Roach arent agressive. Roach thinks of a gamplan for every fight and fighters like Kotelnik and Malignaggi arent agressive fighters. Therefore Roach has put more emphasis on different things then fighting backwards. I'm sure if Amir is to fight a pressure fighter like Maidana, Prescott or Katsidis Roach will adress that.
