Does the better technical fighter always win?

One thing I think people forget is that heavily disciplined "skilled" fighters are trained for fighting orthodox styles. When they have to deal with unorthodox fighters they tend to be significantly less effective because they don't know what to expect and their muscle memory tends to work against them.

Depends whether the technically superior fighter can impose his skill or whether the technically inferior boxer can eventually walk him down and beat him up. Cotto punched seven shades out of shite out of Margarito, made him look ordinary, cumbersome and average - and then he eventually got walked down and beaten up (plaster references not included). Margs still got to him. Ricky Hatton vs Kostya Tszyu, recentish. Hatton bullied Kostya and made it rough and tumble for the entire night, no other way he could have avoided being KO'd much less win the fight.

Of course, their are plenty technical fighters that get beat by sluggers! khan/prescott...taylor/froch....are good examples!

Has there been any fights in recent history where the better technician lost? If not, then Floyd gets it. of course there were fights when the better technical fighter lost... just to clarify, it doesnt mean that if sum fighter is an unorthodox one, he automatically gets picked apart by the perceived technically superior fighter... sweet pea was unorthodox as anyone IMO... well, maybe u can still remember carlos maussa dismantling a prime vivian harris... or what about cristian mijares, a non black american but slick as hell technical fighter getting ripped to pieces by an "inferior" unorthodox southpaw named vic darchinyan? even without the KO, darchinyan was still winning the fight... there are several other examples my man... with the internet @ your disposal, im sure you are going to find them...

A good example of this is that this one time, there was an Irishman named Herrol Graham, who fought at middleweight, he was a really good technician with good skills and was well rounded. He got a world title shot against Julian Jackson, and preceded to school Jackson badly, he was making him look ridiculous, but then all of a Sudden Jackson lands a big shot on Graham, who goes down unconcious and Jackson gets the title. This sort of thing is rare, but it can happen. The difference is that the chin/power ration in the PBF-PAC fight is not what it was in the Jackson-Graham fight. I still think Floyd is the favorite in this fight, but a fighter like Pac is never going to be anything but a very slight underdog against him.

Darchinyan-Mijares. That was fairly lopsided prefight for Mijares. Probably like 9 out of 10 people picked Vic to get blown out. So, no, throughout history, its been proven that a better technician isn't always the winner.

i agree with that...but i truly believe that calzaghe just has a completely unorthodox style...you can't train for it...and i don't think it can be taught...it's just calzaghe's style...he was the better fighter...but i don't believe that he was the better boxer...or should i say more efficient...when he fought hopkins and roy jones...he wasted a lot of punches...he throws like a madman...so much that it can overwhelm an opponent...he gets credit for having the ability to do it...but it doesn't make him a great boxer...when i hear the term technical fighter...i always think of a better boxer...and i so happen to believe that kessler is a better boxer...but he got beat the **** up by a fighter in calzaghe... calzaghe has the style that he has because he lacks fluid movement, very awkward fellow, i blame his father probabley throwing punches like a bitch and calzaghe as he grew up mimicked him, but the awkwardness is somethin you'd never expect and it's hard to dodge(unless he's doing one of his famous flurries) he also used to hit hard as fukk

Malignaggi - Hatton is a great example. Hatton has great tecnique in a body-going forward fight but he does not how to go backwards. Malignaggi is a better technician, but.... Yeah. It's why I picked Hatton.
