Seriously. The pop on his punches were gone, after the knockdown in round 2 he just seemed like he had nothing. I mean, he was landing some nice looping shots and body shots, but he had no sting to them at all. Only in the first round was he throwing with authority, i was almost puzzled as to how this happened to him so quickly. I know pac took his best shots, which was outstanding, but im talking strictly from Miguels perspective. What happened to him after the 2nd round? I swear he looked shot after that knockdown. Pacmans power either really did a number on him or he lost it mentally (cuz of pac). i dont know, i was just suprised to see that.
As the fight wore on it just became blatantly clear who the better man was, Cotto did alright early but even in the really exciting rounds it was becoming clear who was wearing the pants in the fight and after round five who was controlling the fight was in little doubt (as was who was going to win).
Cuz Pac took his heart wit those KD's. He ain't look seriously hurt on either, but Pac showed em who was boss. He was doin the chasin, landin the harder shots, takin punches better. No way Cotto expected that. He just ain't know what to do.
Ya know after watching 6-8 again Cotto still had mustard on his punches then, he just threw less because he was trying to move and counter. At that point Manny knew Cotto couldn't hurt him though and he even walked through some good punches.
Pac is just a beast, and Cotto is not really a KO puncher like everyone was making him out to be. He needs to wear you down with consistant hard punches.
No he was past it after the Marg fight.
Cotto is shot Cotto is Shot.Hopefully Pac hasthe blass to fight someone who is`nt past it next.
Yea, thats why Cotto was able to beat the best WW's in the division.
Who isnt past it?
If he beats Floyd, u will say Floyd was past it after his lay off.
JMM = Floyds left overs.
SSM = Old and well past it.
Margrito = SMM's left overs
Anyone who is unbeaten will be called green.
Cotto was the man at WW.
cotto's confidence was obviously shaken by the knockdowns but the fact that pacman was sitting on the ropes daring cotto to hit him, and when he did, it having no affect must have shattered his belief system. :crying:

WHAT HAPPENED??? I'LL TELL YOU COTTO STANS!!! COTTO CAN'T HANG WITH AN ATG FIGHTER LIKE PAC!!!!
BWHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAAH!!!
NEXT TIME DON'T TALK SO MUCH BULLSHIT AND DON'T CRY SO MUCH!!!!
ugh ugh ugh!!! take that on your faces bitches!!!!!
How many fighters have been hurt by Plaster? If you ever were in a accident you should know. Cotto was in one than he had the brick incident against Margo. Than tried to recover by fighting jennings, but he didn't recover from the Clottey fight. pacquiao has'nt been hurt untill the first four or five rounds of the cotto fight. Cotto also rocked him around the 8th round, but didn't have much to follow. The day Manny gets a beating like the ones Cottos has got lets see how many top fighters will manny beat next. I'll bet he'll retire. De La Hoya and Hatton were easy fights and he didn't get hurt so he came in strong.
I had Cotto winning by KO in the 12th, in fact, the fight played out the exact opposite as I thought it would. I had Manny winning the early part of the fight and then Cotto taking over, roles became completely reversed. I agree it was the second knockdown that changed the fight. Cotto's jab was eating Manny alive and there was no in/out action like in Manny's previous fights. But once Cotto tried to slug it out with Manny and got hit with that uppercut, it was Margarito in that ring all over again. Also, Cotto did need Evangelista in that corner, I didn't hear much had 10 people over, but from what I heard and could tell, Roach was exactly right. Cotto runs his own show and that isn't going to cut it against top tier opponents.
Not taking anything away from Manny though, he worked on a lot of stuff to prepare for this fight. His chin held up a lot better than I thought it would, though, if Cotto kept going I think Manny would have broken down as well. Each time Cotto landed a flush shot Manny would hit himself with the glove and he did it about 5 times or so. But the thing that totally surprised me was how good Manny's defense was on the ropes, he had the same exact shell as Clottey and Cotto could have thrown more like he did against Clottey in the 6th but I'm sure he wanted to conserve energy. Still... Margarito official ruined Cotto, he's just not the same guy anymore. Where he used to be hurt and still come forward Marg took that away from him. I figured it was the cut in the Clottey fight because thats a very tough thing to fight with, but in this fight after the knockdown Cotto was just in full survival mode and had he done something to follow up with that jab he could have won the fight. If anything I hate Marg more now, ruined the career of potentially a great, great fighter. Props to Manny though, MAD PROPS, guy has convinced me that he has become a fantastic all around fighter.
cotto will prove his detractors are wrong when he fights again..
you should also consider the team behind cotto, they're are the ones responsible for cottos performance inside the ring..
cut the "past-prime" arguement/excuse..
its a weak one..
Mayweather should have chosen him first then.
...he tried, but it was bad timing, even though cotto held a title. that was a time at 140 where nobody fought anybody.
I think after the real knock down, Cotto fell apart mentally. He was scared to trade, scared to let his hands go, scared to come forward.
Before that point he was clearly in control of the fight, and up the the point before the knockdown, it looked like Pacman was going to get stopped. He was getting roughed up pretty good, and looked like he had no answers, but as soon as the knockdown, things pretty much turned around 100%
I think a lot of had to do with poor preparation from Cotto's team, and as much some people don't want to admit, Cotto could of used Evangalista in his camp. He was also getting poor advice.
whatever Cotto had left after the Marg and Clottey fights.....Pac beat it out of him when he dropped him the second time!!......Cotto used to be a beast at once.....last night he was reduced to being a helpless vulnerable lil' puppy!!......dam!!
I used to be one of those laughed at the thought of cotto being a shot fighter.. but he is, his weakness is how easily now his nose gets broken so bad that he bleeds profusely.
I find it amazing that no one is this site saw cotto spitting blood out of his mouth by the sixth round AT LEAST. He might have been doing it earlier..
people talk about scarring of the eyes brows etc.. scars cuts easely again.. guess what same thing with a broken nose like the one cotto suffered against margarito. Didn't anyone notice the big ass bugger of blood that came out of cotto's nose at the end of the 9th or 10th round.
any high volume puncher with decent power can take cotto out now..the only reason why clotty did not do the same is because he is a very low volume puncher... His bleeding broken nose is why cotto's punches lost pop and was not willing to trade with many anymore. IMO cotto is a shot fighter..and In my opinon should really start making plans for an exit from the ring.
Personally I thought it was after round 5, near the end of round 5 Pacquiao landed a huge body shot that had Cotto dropping his hands and moving backwards, after that Cotto just started to retreat and looked like he was running on empty. He was having a pretty good round 5 up to that point too. And I think it was the 6th round when I first noticed Cotto start to breathe through his mouth.

I agree with this poster, no power in cotto's punch n it's just not like him to lose strength so early in the fight... Too much weight loss?... poisoned?... it is vegas n they will rig anything for a dollar unfortunately.
STUPID! stop this shit!
The knockdown in the second was the match changer. That shot that Miguel didn't see really is the definition that one punch can change a fight. That shot would of kayoed most fighters btw.
I think it was the second knockdown that really hurt him. The first one made him waste more energy because he tried to knock pac down to even things, but all that energy made him fatigue faster. He was bound to fade, but he had to save his energy and he had to avoid getting in a slug fest with pacquiao that where pacquiao starts hitting the punches you don't see coming.
You can't slug it out. cotto was impressive in the first round, but he couldn't keep it up. and the key was he couldn't hurt Manny while he Mannys punches were hurting him more than Mosleys. I think he can't hold the same punishment anymore.
cotto thought he could trade with pac and not get hurt but he must have been surprised at pac's power after the 2nd knockdown . That shot probably took some of the fight out of him
Yup, it was the 2nd knockdown that did it. I don't count the 1st one because it seemed more like a slip/balance thing. Cotto was coming up to win the 4th round until he took was left hook and was knockdown. He was visibly hurt at that moment.
