Hopkins certainly has the tools to beat Dawson even at this point.
His defense, movement, counters and rough inside tactics would certainly frustate Dawson, I wouldn't be surprised if Hopkins was able to stun Dawson either.
Dawson is a bad fight for Hopkins because he is an atheltic speedy boxer/puncher who can put punches together in bunches and is fundamentally sound plus he is the naturally bigger than Hopkins.
I would like to see this fight but i doubt it ever happens.
Overall i think this is a bad fight for Dawson because not only is Hopkins a fighter that makes you look bad (whether you win or lose), Dawson simply wouldn't get any credit for beating Hopkins who would be 45 by the time they ever fought.
At least you want Dawson to fight guys in their prime. Props for that. But I don't think Hopkins is as deteriorated as what you stated in your post.
A prime Hopkins (1997-2003) would beat Dawson, not this version of Hopkins.
Would be an interesting fight but if Bad Chad fights as controlled as the did against Johnson I do not really see how B-Hop would win. It is far from a sure thing becasue B-Hop is crafty and knows how to fight in ways that make his opponents least effective, but Dawson to me would still have to be a pretty large favorite if they fought.
It would be a nice contrast though.
Some people overrate Hopkins, I don't think he's as good as his fans think he is. He's not as fast and sharp as he once was. He fights sloppy, his workrate is very low, which would be a disaster against Dawson. I think Dawson will punish Hopkins and it wouldn't even be competitive.

Of course....and it's also amusing to see that almost all the people that Defend Dawson's skills are the same people who've been shitting on Pacquiao for fighting geriatrics over the years.
Well, nobody looks good against Hopkins. After Calzaghe and Taylor beat him, a lot of people including myself think they got gift decisions in boring fights. That can hurt fighters' stock a lot.
Does anyone think this fight will be exciting and raise Dawson's reputation with the fans regardless of who wins?
If Dawson beats Hopkins critics will say Dawson beat an aging boxer. I don't think the fight will happen, I don't want to see this fight because Cloud and Pascal are better opponents and will strengthen Dawson's stature if he beats those two.

I definitely respect that. I just feel that Bernard is past his prime, and older fighters normally struggle with younger fighters with good foot work and hand speed. To bad we might not ever get to find out.
We still might if Roy jones loses his next fight and Hopkins wins his.
Lol, he got hit on the shoulder while off balance, then Taylor shoved him with his right forearm. I really haven't seen anone this year say Hopkins was stunned by that. Its a clear shove atfe he gets hit on the shoulder. Also Hopkins has only seemed to fade once (he also had a thyroud condition at the time) How many times has Dawson faded?
That's not what Lampley seen, and he was directly in front of Hopkins. While Bernard tried to evade the punch, he miscalculated and leaned directly into it, and it showed when he had to clinch tight right afterwards. Why didn't he just allow the referee to reset them instead of holding on that long?
Dawson doesn't seem to fight at a fast pace(maybe better than JT's) but Jermain's jab seems sharper to me...
Dawson's not a speed demon...
Everything aside, I like Chad I just think Bernard would be too much to deal with at this point...

Since when did Taylor ever fight at a fast pace? He was just as cautious as Hopkins was, and the only difference is that his left jab was dictating the fight. Both fighters were hesitant about letting their hands go. Dawson fights at a faster pace that Taylor, has a superior, more effective jab and is the much better out boxer. The thing that bothered Hopkins was Taylor's speed and athleticism.

He is only one dimensional after Hopkins beats him. Before that it was all about how technically sound he was, and about his piston like jab, and how he would KoO anyone from 160-175.
hmm Good point.
Though I, personally, was never ecstatic about Pavlik.
But it is quite possible Bhop made him look worse than he really is. Perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to down a fighter for putting on a very one sided clinic, I hate when people do that with my fav fighters.
1. Chad doesn't fight at a pace like Calzaghe or Taylor...
2. I highly doubt Bernard was hurt, it clearly seems like he lost his balance...Bernard ducked real low and Jermain caught him on the side of the head...but w/e...Bernard had Taylor in more trouble later on...

Calzaghe, fought at a fast pace, and i think Dawson would come in with a similar game plan. I think he would be more controlled and would box more.
well probably so, but not if Hopkins try to "give a younger brotha a chance and pass the torch to a young brotha". The way Hopkins passed the torched to Jermain Taylor. It was a bullshitt move. Same thing that Mike Tyson quit on his stool against an Irish guy so Mike can pass the torch and pay tribute to his Irish mentor Cus.
Yeah I said it. I think old man Hopkins would beat Chad Dawson.:boxing::boxing::boxing:
That's shows that the judges favors more work being done by the busier fighter. Dawson would definitely out throw Hopkins( who i expect to fade in the later rounds from the pace that Dawson would set).
More like favor the up and comer.

Don't forget the forearm shove. Hurt is what Taylor was int he 12.

4:06. Tell me why Hopkins clinched as tight as he did after that overhand right landed that drove him into the ropes? It looked like it landed on the shoulder but in reality, it landed on the side of Hopkins face because he bent down into it,. Lampley (who was only a few inchess away from the ring) called it the same way i did.
