i guess when i say "trouble" i basically mean "beat" in a sparring session. or is the ring iq of a professional going to over shadow what ever this in shape amateur has for his out of shape ass, and i mean not running not doing any of that hard work.
A tough question. I think it depends on how out of shape the pro is and how good the amateur is.
Maybe a Rigondeaux level amateur could.
Rigondeaux level amateur would beat nearly every pro today regardless of the shape they are in.
well i meant a professional who hasnt hit a gym in a month, then maybe goes in 3 times a week to do 4 rounds of each bag, no running or any thing else. can he perform based on his skills and ring I.Q.? i was wondering what makes a pro? matter or mind?
A general rule of thumb is that you be better conditioned than amateurs to survive as a professional.

Yes, in fact I remember going to Atlanta School of Boxing and seeing Evander Holyfield spar with an up an comer Derrick Kaisershot...............Kaisershot got beat by Malcolm Tann in the National Golden Gloves finals...............DK whooped up on Holyfield for 6 rounds...................Holyfield told an Atl radio station that DK was the "Real Deal"..........................RIP DK
It depends on what kind of fighter the amateur is. Most of the time if you're a good amateur you're a good pro but some guys need a certain amount of time to forget about points and to start to look for clean EFFECTIVE punches.
In the am, you don't look for the KO but for points.
Look at Peterson VS Blain = a former great amateur who adapted his style to pro VS a former great amateur who still fights like an am against pros.

anything can happen in boxing
the elite pro that is out, out of shape could finesse his technique and leverage his experience just right and land one disgustingly powerful punch on the amateur
Or...
The amateur could upstage the unprepared pro...
Id say yes...
The pro would probably be too winded to do anything correctly...
Also, it depends for how many rounds they go at it...
Too many variables in a situation like the one proposed on this thread.

depends on who is the amatuer and who is the pro
Well a top Amatuer will be beating those kinds of guys in the ring soon enough in their first few fights of a professional career so I'd say yes....
yea thats true but i should have said top professionals instead of professionals. for example an elite out of shape vs a good in shape amateur.
