In summary... Roy Jones agreed to a 45-55 split in Bernards favor. Roy said he was willing to take the short end percentage if he got his commentating job back on HBO. Bernard is interested in the deal and Roy is agreeing if HBO can do it.
We're waiting to hear what HBO comes back with. But HBO has been involved in this deal specifically so they are already aware of the conditions.
Roy said he already signed TODAY to fight Danny Green, but if a Bernard rematch goes through, he would pay Danny to wait.
Bernard is also a little turned off with the Chad Dawson fight now, because what HBO is trying to do is they basically think Chad is going to beat Glen Johnson, and then make Bernard wait til MARCH, so that Chad gets his rest, and Bernard has to wait even LONGER than he already has... Bernard sees this as HBO is setting up their new young fighter for success and they are ready to send Bernard packing home. (This is coming specifically from Bernard)

Finally some good news regarding this.
I'm glad to see Roy is willing to let Bernard get the lion's share he deserves.
HBO is playing some bullshit on Bernard with this Dawson situation from what Hopkins has said. I think they're sizing up Dawson to be their next Jermain Taylor.
I'd rather see Hopkins school and rough up Dawson so that Hopkins would once again make everybody over at HBO eat crow for about the fifth time ; but whatever Bernard wants to do I'm cool with.
Roy and Bernard are both legends and if they want to cap off their careers with a big payday against each other then I'm cool with that.
It's the same exact bullshit they are pulling in the Johnson-Dawson fight. Dawson last fought in May and you can't tell me that he couldn't have fought Johnson earlier in the year. I'm not saying that's his fault but it just goes to show you of how HBO is wanting his opponents to get old to give Chad every advantage he can get.
He aint gonna get any credit to beat Roy and idk if he'll be motivated...
You don't think Bernard would be motivated for Roy? Losing to Roy again would not be good for Hopkins legacy and Bernard is a proud man, he takes that really seriously. I think he would have great motivation if he fought Roy.
Roy is not getting the commentating job back...

Adamek or Dawson are better choices...
From Dan Rafaels' blog today:
Now to the other issue with Jan. 30. Schaefer is also in a bind. His other veteran star fighter, Bernard Hopkins, had already been tentatively scheduled by HBO for the date (likely against cruiserweight champ Tomasz Adamek or Chad Dawson). The date is a big deal for Hopkins, who wants to fight in the same month in which he turns 45, and I'm told he's really ticked off about possibly being bounced into February.
Not sure who has the more updated and accurate info because this seems to be indicating that Hopkins is still set on fighting Adamek (he really hasn't showed much interest at all in Dawson from my observation).
lol..why not...make the fight happen...id definitly watch
we all would! but these guys are the epitome of wats killing the sport. the winner should always get the bigger share! this would kill a ton of the greedy bickering and no its not illegal like some idiot stated. if the fight goes to a draw then a they get even money with a % left over to put in the rematch winners pocket.

if the fight gets signed.....'nard will knock roy into the commentating table....
When is the last time Bernard KO:d anyone? Blown up De La Hoya in 2004?
Bernard might win but not by stoppage.
Reed, this fight is like a Wu-Tang Clan album...It's always gonna come out next year and it never happens..Oh "The Clan seems to have agreed on everything and there is a tentative date for blah blah blah" 5 uears later..."U-God had a falling out with Raekwon, album not coming out"...and it's just back and forth...you see what i mean?...They can say they have agreed all they want, something is going to happen to stop th efight from gettin gsigned...This fight was i n93 Reed, they haven't made he rematch for NO REASON..we're 2009..
isn't that like 16 years?
Im well aware of the history of this fight.
And Im well aware of the circumstances that have happened everytime theyve tried to make the fight.
The point is, this is the CLOSEST the fight has ever come to being made... Bernard KNOWS, if he said 60-40... it wouldnt get made... and that is WHY, when Schaeffer went to Bernard and told him what Roy was willing to do... Bernard was in agreeance.
He didnt say NO... 60-40.
I read everything you wrote..don't assume.
I saw the 55-45 shit...I'm saying Hopkins will push that to a 60-40...then a 70-30...get it now? baby steps Reed...baby steps.
Sheesh.
WRONG.... Bernard already said he would do the 55-45... and he knows that if he went to 60-40 the fight wouldnt get made.
So there would be no point in doing what you said.
