Over 17,000 tickets have been sold for Margarito vs. Mosley for Saturday, January 24 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. There are about 600 upper balcony seats remaining. Top Rank and Golden Boy are promoting. HBO will televise.
Looks like it's gonna be an amazing atmosphere! One week away to a great fight! :boxing:
Margarito Mosley- near sellout of 18k
Pavlik vs Rubio- sellout of around 8k
Cotto Jennings- projected to do 12k
Diaz vs JMM- expected to sellout 15k
proves fights need to be in cities where they can cultivate and cater to the local boxing fanbase and stay away from casinos as much as possible
Exactly! Only the mega-fights should be in Vegas, and those should be the only ones on PPV. Four tops per year too...one per quarter.
Say what negative things you will about Arum, but he said about 4 months ago that he was getting old and that he knew he was on his way out. He said his goal was to make boxing available to the world.
He deserves credit for making this fight dirt cheap to attend live. I think nosebleed tickets were somewhere around $25. Hell, I payed $45 to sit nosebleed for Taylor-Spinks. Arum took a huge step in the right direction by cutting ticket prices in half. Weren't ringside tickets only $300? Not sure...
The atmosphere is going to be awesome, not that 3000 people at the Home Depot Center shit I've been seeing lately on HBO. Hopefully the Mexicans are screaming there hearts out for Margarito and there are enough Shane fans to keep a U-S-A! chant going.
thats how i thought it was gonna be, Antonio Margarito atmosphere and maybe a few couple hundred Mosley fans at best, Good for boxing,
Why do you want to make this Mexico Vs USA, Its better off being the battle for L.A cause if it is Mex Vs U.S ,Mexico will win this and i dont think an old Mosley should represent the U.S, So its better off as the battle for L.A
Or not paying customers. If I watched football I wouldn't be a paying customer, I'd be a "viewer".
Well, viewers = ratings, which equal money, so same difference in the long run.
Besides, I was referring to the fact that someone flipping through and enjoying the fight on HBO, might just be willing to pay for a PPV in the future.

Great news, maybe these guys will realize that you can do more for the sport in the long run by not trying to make a PPV event out of everything.
Who knows, maybe a few hundred thousand casual fans will happen to be flipping through and catch the fight on HBO, and then turn into paying customers.

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise that the fight sells out. Any truly good boxing matchup is IMO the best thing in sports, right alongside the super bowl. Of course the game is in a "weak" state but fghts like this prove how good boxing really is.
That's true, but if promoters want people to start packing these arenas when they organize these fights, they need to keep the prices reasonable...low enough for average fight-fans to attend.
what killed boxing is high PPV price that could be more expensive that this fight going live.
I heard that some PPV last year could have reach $50
That is insane for something that is couple of hours and not alot of demand from mainstream sport fan
maybe because of the economy if they put the normal price like last year people wont be going anyway
