Boxing icon? Mayweather shouldn't be there for sure.
The only 2 out of that lot people who have no interest in boxing would have heard is Tyson and Ali. I think Ali wins hands down however.
WHEN I FIRST READ THIS THREAD, I SAID TO MYSELF, WATCH ODLH'S NAME BE MENTIONED! SURE ENOUGH, IN THE TOP 5, PEOPLE,:boxing: HOYA IS AN ICON IN TAKING YOUR MONEY AND MAKING HIMSELF A BILLIONARIE. NOT A BOXING ICON.
Well he still does it all through boxing and by actually fighting, so he is still this era's prominent boxing icon.
Billy Dib.
:lol1:
Why the hell is Mayweather Jr on the list? He never even hit mainstream popularity apart from the ridiculous wrestling thing, even then it was forgotten who he was ten minutes later. Hoya is about the only guy you could put on that list from the recent era. There are a few missing, but really, it's got to be Ali. No question. Tyson, Louis etc come up short still.
how is joe louis not on the list?
american icon - joe louis
mexican icon - julio cesar chavez
world icon - muhammad ali
oscar and floyd are just wasting space on that poll.
Thats right on, everybody was supposed to act like Joe Louis, after the way Jack Johnson acted. But Ali was more of Jack Johson cloth then Joe Louis.
Everybody talks about Ali being a pioneer for the shits he did and said. But, i'd say Jack Johnson was the first to do it, before Ali and before that baseball player broke the color lines, and a black man acted how he wanted to act Jack Johnson was his own man before anyone else he did it first in a time period that was crazier then the period Ali was in. If you think Ali got away with a lot of stuff, he got nothing on Jack Johson who did it his way.
