To clear the air on the deduction, which some are labeling a "cheap shot" - this was entirely Nady's fault. If he had been at attention he would have noted the knockdown and stepped in immediately. It was a war and when Barrera turned the tables and connected without any response from the referee, he hesitated for a split second but was already transformed into full attack mode going for the kill. Confusion combined with aggression in a very brief interval resulted in the foul. Typical Barrera intensity when he has his opponent hurt, Marquez also didn't go down fully (he was somewhat bent over) and with no call from Nady Barrera's instinct was probably to finish flattening him out.
do you seriously think marquez dominated barrera that night?? dominated would be like what pacquiao did to barrera in there first fight, or what buster douglas or lennox lewis did to mike tyson. marquez did not do this to barrera, it was a close fight and although i think barrera won the fight, i would have no complaints if people think marquez won a close fight, because it was a close fight and no way did marquez dominate barrera. the judges scorecards were a joke that night.
the more i see that fight, the more i wish barrera would have fought marquez 7-8 years ago, he would have won more convincingly i believe :boxing:
It was a competitive fight, but Marquez clearly had the upperhand after round 6. He beat Barrera's ass in the 7th minus the knockdown (which would have been 9-9 anyway if the knockdown was scored correctly) and almost just as bad in the 10th. He didn't put a beating on Barrera like Pacquiao did, but he was always landing the more and effective cleaner blows. Barrera did good for the first 6 rounds and it was 3-3 a piece, but Marquez won every round after that.
The fight was not close.

the barrera from 2003 would have whooped juanma. :)
Seriously? Seriously?
....
Marquez dominated this fight after the first 6 rounds which went 3-3 to start with.

I was there first row and thought Marquez won the fight. Jay Nady should have ruled that a knockdown but MAB should have not hit JMM while he was down. Very good fight that MAB showed he can still box with the elite. JMM was a tad better that night. Great Fight and I was A lucky man.
Marquez won it, but the judges were idiots, as usual...it wasn't nearly as wide a decision as they had it. I had Marquez up by 2 rounds (after counting the "slip" as a proper knockdown, which it clearly was), I think...might've been just one round; been awhile since I watched it, still, 2 rounds sounds right.
Marquez was older than Barrera, so how does that work out?and the knockdown might as well have been a dq,you act like barrera was winning that round, he was getting rocked,if the knockdown was counted it might as well have been an even round and the point deduction would have made it 10-8 marquez
Both of them put on a bad ass fight. You have to pay close attention to what Marquez does. His skills are just A+. If you know how to actually watch a boxing match, youd have Marquez as the winner in a close fight.
Boxing matches aren't scored by the facial appearance of the fighters afterwards. If they were, then Forbes beat De La Hoya a few months ago.
Shit man, Marquez got so beaten up he had a moustache afterwards. Thats serious shit.
No one ever fucked up Marquez's face that bad, want to know why Marquez's face was so fucked up at the end of the fight? It's because Barrera was landing punches, people swear to god Marquez's defense was solid in this fight. I'm sorry but if Barrera only landed a few punches like Marquez's fans swear he did. Then who the fuck did that to Marquez's face?

No ones face gets that fucked up from barely getting hit, thats some total bullshit. And if you watch the fight you can see Barrera countering and landing many of his shots. Marquez defense was not as great as people made it out to be in this fight, he got hit flush more then people are willing to admit.

I really think barrera deserved the decision, discuss who do you think won.
If I remember it right, there was one round where a knockdown by Barrera was ruled a slip and on the same round he was penalized a point for hitting Marquez while Marquez was down...instead of a 10-8 round for Barrera it became a 10-9 round (possibly 10-8 because of the point deduction) for Marquez. I'm sure it also made Barrera lose momentum and confidence in the succeeding rounds...
Barrera lost due to his OWN STUPIDITY. Marquez was lucky, but it was a win for Marquez nonetheless.

Now you know how Pac fans feel...lol. Marquez's defense ain't exactly airtight. He gets hit a lot even by lower tier opponents. Some people tend to disregard that because of how impressive he looks countering. He's a great fighter, but he's no Floyd on defense. Yeah... Barrera got his licks in especially in the early rounds and that fight was a lot closer than some people care to admit.
