who really won Pacman v Marquez 1+2
i think Pacman may have edged it allthough it looked as though Marquez had won more rounds but that 10/6 round made a huge difference in the fight
Pac got a 4 point round do people honestly think he did not win at least 2 of the next 11 rounds to get at least a draw
however i swayed towards Marquez in the rematch i did watch it on sopcast so i may have a destorted view of the fight but my initial thoughts were that Marquez had won this time
who did you have winning ?
My recollection of the 12th rd was both guys believed they had and were protecting the lead going in. Pacman didnt pressure as much as previous rds but landed more than enough to keep the rd close. After landing with frequency as the rd closed...Pacman looked at Marquez as if to say I can do this all night. Marquez looked back as if to say too bad its over and i got this
Just rewatched the 12th and it wasn't as wide as I recalled. Marquez definitely took the round but both seemed able to continue just fine. Pacquiao had slowed down considerably, in subsequent rounds Marquez (also slowed) might have been able to win just through counterpunching as it would likely have finished at a slow pace.
Usually if a guy gets knocked down three times in a round (and isn't named Archie Moore) if he isn't finished there he will go in the next round. It is a bit surprising that it wasn't stopped but it was a good call, Marquez did not seem particularly hurt (to the point of not being able to continue) despite going down that many times.
he was hurt but not seriously hurt. when he was laying there after the 3rd kd it seemed like to me he was like , "what's going on here?" , in shock. a lot of heart to continue......
he got kd 3 times in 1 minute. crazy. he just wasn't ready for manny's speed. when he adjusted for manny's handspeed he did very well.
that's what the 3rd judge thought as well. when he was questioned about it because his 10-7 caused the draw. he stated that he didn't realize you could give a 10-6 round.
10-8 one kd. 10-7 two kd. 10-6 three kd.
it's rare because how many times does a guy get knocked down 3 times and the fight not get stopped?
i was surprised joe cortez didn't stop it myself. imagine how boxing history would've changed if joe did stop it after 1 round?

Really? That's contrary to what I'd always heard (it's a very rare situation in any case), I wasn't familiar with the breakdown of the final scoring.
I should also add that 10-6 does seem excessive in only a 12 round fight, it really destroys any chance of a comeback (despite the outcome in this case). For a 15 rounder it would make more sense. Then again it doesn't really matter, I doubt we'll see another occurrence like that ever again (3 knockdowns in the first with the other fighter controlling most of the rest of the fight).

My recollection is the reverse - Marquez dominating the 12th while Pacquiao seemed spent. I haven't watched it since it aired however.

2 judges scored it 10-6.
the one judge that scored it 10-7 admitted he made a mistake and would've scored it 10-6. he didn't think 10-6 was allowed.

Judges won't score a round below 10-7, so the third knockdown was basically excessive.

:lol1: this is what ive been trying to explain they just dont seem to get it
Pac had a 4 point round he only needed 2 rounds from the next 11 rounds and if remember right he won the 2nd round clearly ,thats 5 rounds
you only need 6 rounds for a draw it is very very unlikely that mathematically Marquez won this fight

people tend to forget that its a point system
Pacman seemed to have plenty of energy to spare after the 2nd fight while Marquez breathed sighs of relief believing he had done enough to bag it up

I had Marquez taking the second fight by two points. As for the joking reference to a 15 round fight, that would certainly favor Marquez considering how much energy Pacman had to expend to remain in the fight and how strongly Marquez finished.

The first fight Pacman won IMO because he did win atleast 3 rounds after the knockdown, the second fight I had Pacquiao winning it would have been a draw if Marquez hadn't got KDed

Pac started to land the left again in the 10th and 11th of the 1st fight as well which Marquez had no answer for. So despite winning 8 out of 12 rds...Pacquiao by a comfortable margin.
