To say Clottey would not have won the fight, you have to say that he would not have won 3 more rounds after sweeping the first 4 rounds.
Many people have severely flawed logic. If fighter A is dominating fighter B then fighter A breaks his hands and fight B begins to win, it is obvious that had fight A not broken his hands, he would have continued to win.
It is absurd to think Margarito, who made ZERO adaptations in the previous 4 rounds would have done anything different in the next 8 rounds. Indeed, Margarito did not do anything different. He is one of the least intelligent fighters, and one of if no THE most one dimensional fighter in boxing.
The change in the fight happened when Clottey stopped throwing punches because of his hand injury.
Clottey is a front runner. He fades down the stretch of his fights, especially when his opponent keeps the heat on him, despite what people like to say about his uber-conditioning. He faded against Gutierrez and started holding, butting and getting sloppy. He jumped out fast on Baldomir and (again) fell apart down the stretch, leading to a disqualification.
Going by these fights (probably his two best opponents previous to Margarito) it is fair to say that he may have done the same thing against Margarito's constant pressure.
The entire bold part is incorrect. Margarito was being slapped around by Williams without making any changes in the first four rounds but he closed the fight quite well...making it a somewhat reasonable match. He could have easily done the same against Clottey, who again has faded in his two toughest tests to date.
The fight changed with the hand injury, but I doubt it would have been 12 rounds of Clottey domination if he hadn't injured the hand, which is what I said in my initial posts. Margarito would have continued to put the pressure on him and it still would have been a close fight in my estimation. Maybe Clottey would have won, maybe not.
im not one you want to fuck with. i call out bullshit anytime i see it and you're covered in it. you're so bitter than both marg and cotto are getting shine you cant even go in this forum without posting a negative thought. but its funny to read because with every letter you type, you let the forum know how much you're hurting.
He is conveniently flip flopping almost everyday on this. Sunday he said he was now a Margarito fan. He basically is trying to be in a position where no matter who wins he'll say he told you so and he always knew Margarito/Cotto sucked. This guy is the ultimate frontrunner.

:lol1: Ain't that the truth? They jealous because they thought people would still be talking bout Mayweather but weeks after he left he was already old news! There is only ONE thread in the front page with Mayweather's name on it and it came from one of his fans :lol1: It hurts them to see others get recognition.. Look how bitter they where about Pacquiao getting the P4P 1 spot.
He could have, but it wouldn't have been some one-sided affair as it was (largely) in the first 4 rounds. Clottey was winning the fight until that 5th round though, then he did virtually nothing because of the hand and Margarito's continued attack.

The point of this whole thread is that Paul Williams has more heart than Joshua Clottey(Clottey is one tough customer tho) and about the same or more heart than Margarito(Margarito is a bad ass). If Margarito fans got anythign to say about that just watch the 12th round of their fight.
Are you a Margarito fan, 2501. I need to know after the fight when Margarito loses I need to know how to direct my abuse towards people correctly. I don’t want to make fan of the wrong person. Where do you stand??

Maybe Clottey would have won the win fight if he hasnt injured his hand, But we would never know but the difference between the first 4 rounds to the 5-12 rounds was evident.
Agreed
He can only really beat injured fighters. A healthy Paul Williams exposed his fool.
actually Paul Williams had a rib injury before the fight. He was at the hospital 2 weeks before the fight. Maybe even less. A rumor was going around that Paul was sick as hell from weight draining. But it was just a cover up for the rib.
Oh, I was only aware that Clottey had a hand injury. Could you send me a link to that interview? It would be an interesting read. I read this:
J.S: What are your recollections of your fight with Margarito?
J.C: I wanted that fight for a very long time, ever since I was living in Africa. He's (Margarito) just the same as any other fighter, earning a living from boxing. When I was offered that fight I said yes straight away. I felt my hand go at the end of the fourth round. It wasn't broken, but they told me at the hospital later that it had a stress fracture. I would like to fight Margarito again, to avenge my loss. I know he can't change his defensive shortcomings.
That was taken from an ESB interview. Do you know what round Margarito suffered his injury?
Anyway, Clottey visibly changed what he was doing after the fourth, I didn't see that with Margarito. I think it was a result of his hand being hurt (to whatever extent) and Margarito's continued pressure. If he had been able to throw both hands more freely I think he would have, but I don't necessarily think he would have continued to control the action like he was doing previous to hurting the hand.

Margarito was there tending to his own injuries, which were disclosed as being a wrist injury on the right hand and a re-injured ankle. TSS scribe David Avila broke the news of Margarito’s original ankle injury which he sustained during sparring a few weeks before the Clottey fight. http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/4631/boxing-chatter
like i said, both fighters were injured, but only one did what it took to win. im looking for the interview where Clottey himself said he had a bruised knuckle.
Actually, Margarito ALSO suffered a wrist injury which prompted him to postpone the Williams fight DURING the Clottey fight. He is also came in with an ankle injury he suffered during training camp.
Clottey later admitted that he just had a bruised knuckle in a later interview.
Now, both fighters suffered an injury, but only one let it affect them.

Correct. There is truth to what you say, but Clottey was still visibly affected by something (the hand) and he couldn't afford to coast through the rest of the fight because Margarito wouldn't let him.
Margarito did his job and won the fight clearly. Can't take that from him. I suspect Clottey's hand did have something to do with the outcome of the fight though...it would have been a different fight had he been able to throw more freely.

That whole Cotto Cop thing in your av....is that because he fights like a robot or because he has the personality of one?
both. he has the on screen personality of a rock.
Why not stop the fight and avoid a more serious injury? it was still early on the fight, 4 out of 12 rounds, besides Clottey still threw left hooks throught the fight and didn't grimace, he opted to stay on a turtle shell defense of the remaining of the fight. Margarito broke his will, plain and simple, they both had injuries yet Margarito pressed the fight after the 5th and clearly won it.
