We've seen Cotto take opponents lightly before, this may be Gomez's only hope but if Cotto is not 100% it could be interesting.

Gomez may be taller but by no means is he bigger than Cotto who has a huge back and shoulders.

Cotto was a welterweight in a superlightweight's body for a long time before he moved up. He's bigger than most people think he is. Beating Gomez will be more about his physical strength than his punching power and he has the edge in both categories. The size difference won't mean shit cuz for Gomez to win he has to box and move around not stand in close and try to be strong. Cotto will fuck him up in close exchanges.

Cotto is a tremendously strong welterweight. I wouldn't anticipate any "size" or power advantages for Gomez. Shane Mosley, a small powerhouse himself, was very explicit in detailing how Cotto is incredibly strong.. Extremely.

Shane Mosely and Alfonso Gomez are the same height at 5'9", and Cotto's jab works mighty good on 2" taller opponents. Cotto's jab to hold Gomez still and a left-hook-to-the-body, to make him drop his hands.

Gomez is a stepping stone to bigger paydays for Cotto, nothing more. It gives him exposure to the large audience of the contender series and is a tuneup while waiting for bigger fights like Margarito/Cintron, Quintana II, Mayweather, etc.
