Am I the only one that thinks Quintana was doing a decent job, perhaps even winning the fight before Cotto stopped him in the 5th round? I've watched and re-watched the fight and I thought Quintana was winning the fight up until Cotto unleashed on him. Just want to hear your thoughts if you've actually seen the fight.
You could tell after the 1st round Cotto was going to KO him. He was throwing and landing the harder shots and when he turned south paw on Q it was all over. That body shot took it all out of him.
i think quintana made cotto look good....he was expecting a slow robotic fighter and cotto isnt that...quintana moves but he likes to take breaks and that's what you dont do against a good boxer-puncher who pressures...plus he isnt durable at all(always looks busted up after fights) and the stupid head turns his back when cotto threw a body shot...
The back shot doesnt make a difference. Cotto landed numerous hard head shots just prior to the knockdown. Quintana was on his way out. Cotto figured his movement out quick, and the ring was huge. He can box from the start and it'd be the same result.
If Cotto destroyed Quintanna, then who was the guy handing Paul Williams his first loss just recently?
I don't think Quintanna was doing too bad till he got hit in the back, right over his liver. Had the fight continued much longer he would have gotten seriously hurt though. I think if he rematched Cotto, he would respect his power this time and try to outbox him.

Quintana has a way of wilting and appearing weak in his fights. The way it looked to most people Cotto was doing slightly more damage than he actually was - but Quintana was definately not liking the hip/back/kidney/liver/armpit/shoulder shots he was taking.
Quintana did do very well but Cotto killed him in the last round and he was badly battered.
Still, there is something that no one talks about and it is Quintanas style in that fight. Cotto was moving up so Quintana felt like he was the bigger/stronger man and pretty much traded with Cotto alot. That was a huge mistake. If Quintana knew Cotto would be that big & strong and just decided to stay on the outside and box all fight then I think he could still possibly give Cotto alot of trouble. It was just a bad game plan because they thought they would be the bigger/stronger guy.
It kind of compares to Tito vs Joppy. Joppy was a good boxer & mover but he felt like he would be bigger & stronger then Tito so he went toe to toe with him and got killed. If he had moved then he may have given Tito alot of trouble. Thats why I think Quintana probally feels like if he fought Cotto again then he could do the same things he did in the 1st fight except better and for longer since he wouldnt ingage with Cotto as much this time around
Yeah Cotto did destroy him. Infact, it looked like he was toying with Quintana at times. Cotto was unmarked after the fight while, as soon as he turned up the heat, he knocked out a badly beat Quintana. Quintana's face showed every punch Cotto landed, and was already swelling after the 2nd rd, the right eye. Cotto probably could have ended it a round earlier if he turned up the heat in rds 2-4.
He MAY have been a live dog till he got destroyed but he did get destroyed.
Quite frankly Cotto was wearing quintana down effectively, round after round u could see cotto's shots taking effect on quintana. My favorite performance by cotto to date. easily.
It did take Cotto a little while to get used to Quintana's southpaw movement, but he caught up to him in a big way. Cotto did what he was supposed to and Quintana knew he was in no way ready to continue.
the way the fight ended made it look real bad for quintana. the corner comes in the ring and he's pushing everybody away screaming at them that the fight is over that he didn't want to fight anymore
Agreed.
It was pretty much a destruction, just look at that 5th round but it wasn't a one-sided beating for 5 rounds like I've heard.
Quintana was competitive in there for the first few rounds of the fight but Cotto pretty much just destroyed him in the 5th round.
Cotto would beat Quintana again by mid rounds TKO if they fought.
Just watch the 5th round, and u tell me. His corner was BEGGING him to give them one more round, and all he can say was "i cant, im dead" If that's not destroyed, i dont know what is.
Quintana was competitive for the first 3 rounds but Cotto was increasing the pressure every round. In the 4th it was too much and you could see Quintana becoming unravelled the 5th was a beating with Cotto switching stances a couple of times.
Dont forget the work of the early rounds sets the foundation for what happened in the 5th. Cotto didn't just start landing in the 5th he was landing solid throughout the fight.
