Despite him being the champion, is he already a shot fighter. Most likely past his prime?
Im asking because I see a lot of people criticizing Pacquiao for fighting elite but shot fighters, yet they are the same people pushing him to fight Marquez.
If Pacquiao was my fighter i too would think, he wasn't afraid of Barrera.
But he really wasn't afraid of Solis prior to Barrera and Pacquiao looked like the old fearless Pacquiao. Problem was as he was putting everything onto his punchs to ko Solis, he was missing 90 percent of his punchs.
Pacquiao coming out so strong against Solis and missing so many punchs against a C class fighter is why when he was set to fight a A class fighter he didn't want to be made foolish or get ko'd. Only reason i can think off for Pacquiao looking so timid to punch. He was SSSSSSSSScared to get ko'd. I'll see if Pacquiao comes out strong like he last did with Solis or he comes in timid like he did with Barrera. "manny flat ouboxed...." fucken funny as hell, you should be a comidian, even when you're trying not to be funny, you're funny!!! Great job, now run down to the store and bring me back a pack of tortillas.
styles makes fights dont you know that by now? sometimes 2 boxers will look awkward against each other however good they are because of styles. and that's what solis-pac was about, but nevertheless when he wanted to pumped it up, he ko'd solis no sweat.
if you think it wasnt outboxing outlasting outfighting what happened to MAB in the first fight then you're just a biased stupid retard. get over it, the whole world already agreed thats what happend back then.
you have got to be so dumb to think manny was scare or afraid of what barrera may do to him. manny flatout outboxed and beat mab to a pulp the first time. barrera boxed only to survive in the 2nd and not came to fight you moron. were you the stupid poster who also blamed corrales for not taking the castillo fight because castillo didnt make weight? your logic is below sealevel.
many "outboxed" barrer in the first fight? Barrera got his ass whooped. there was little boxing in that fight. in the second fight, EVERYONE noticed that Manny wasnt pressing as he has in his previous fights whatever the reason is.

Just to name a few Marquez wars, Barrera, Jadeng, Pacquiao. As you can see it wasn't only the Pacquiao fight.
Morales had a lose coming into the Pacquiao fight. The 1st one and the 2nd one. Manny been in wars but he's been winning. He didn't rush Barrera cause he was either scared of what Barrera had and was afraid Barrera may work him like Marquez first did or 2, he was contint to box with Barrera as Roach had been working on his boxing. Either way it was Pacquiao who didn't press for the fight like he did in his prior fight with Solis.

Marquez is no where near shot. He hasn't looked shot in any of his fights. He gets hit more because he's trying to be more offensive, thus he's opened up more to counter shots. He's only been in a real war with Manny and if your one that goes by wars putting mileage on the body, then Marquez is a fairly new used car. He's coming off dominating performances, afew of them against younger, hungrier foes. This win will be completely legit for either fighter. Plus it's so funny that nobody mentions all the wars Manny has been in to say whether he's shot or not. Every fight Manny goes into is practically a war - Morales style.

I think you may be kidding yourself lol ;)
Yep man, I agree with you on the Juarez fight. I think you can actually see Marquez in a bit of pain a few times. Especially in one of the later rounds he gets tagged and you can definitely tell that he was in pain and a bit shaken. You're right that a fight like that can take it out of you as well. That may very well be his last great performance, but, you never can tell with a fighter like Marquez.
If he can just stick to his old style he should be able to keep things reasonably calm and not get into too much of a fight. That would be the worst thing he could do, to get into a brawl, and although thats what most people probably want to see, I really hope he can stick with the strictly counter punching defensive style that he was so good at years ago (not that he isn't anymore, just that he has left that a bit lately) and take the fight that way.
I defently want Marquez to win and i know if he boxes Pacquiao he will win. But part of me just wants to see Marquez go to war with Pacquiao, which he can do, and beat him at his own game as Morales once did. That would be great. But i'll be satisfied with him winning at any cost.
I didn't see much evidence that Barrera was shot against Marquez. I thought he looked pretty good to be honest, but I might be kidding myself.

Though Marquez won his fight against Rocky Juarez. If you really pay attention to Marquez when Rocky landed his shots on Marquez face you can see him holding back and just tightening up.
Where as before in his younger years, he'd take that flush shot and not even a seconds time counter punch.
I've said it before when a fighter like Marquez take a lot of punchs from a puncher like Rocky Juarez, "he wont be the same on his next fight after taking a beating" Marquez didn't take a beating but he took some brutal shots from Rocky Juarez even though Marquez did win, he knew he was in a fight. And if you watch that fight again, pay attention to how Rockys punchs stop Marquez in his tracks when Rocky lands his flush power shots.
I still belive Marquez will win.

I'll say it again...
Sometimes being shot creeps up on you.
I saw Marco Antonio Barrera put forth a great performance against Juan Manuel Marquez last March.
His very next bout, against a Pacquiao who really did look less than his usual self, he looked atrocious.
I didn't see any indicators in the Marquez bout that would make me think that Pacquiao was going to run Barrera over, but he did.
Barrera was a shot fighter by the Marquez bout. He was still good enough to hang with him but Marquez still beat him quite solidly which just would not have happened five years ago. Would have been an huge fight...Don't know who would win?
Marquez though is not shot yet. Everyone has to remember that in the last couple of years he has dramatically changed his style from defensive counter punching master into an aggressive counter puncher. The first fight with Pacquiao, when afterwards he realised he wasn't the main draw annoyed him, and made him change up his style into a more aggressive fighter.
He has definitely lost a couple of steps in timing and speed. Most of it is due to fighting much more aggressive though. He is not shot and even his clinic over Juarez was not what it should or would have been five years ago. He would hardly have been hit five years ago and would have won every round even more convincingly.
So, in conclusion, he is definitely not shot yet but has certainly lost a bit of his incredible timing, speed, and stamina. He has one or two fights left I think. This may even be his last fight. We will see how he looks in it because at these lower weights time literally catches up with you overnight and you go from being great to good to shot.
Just look at the most recent case of Martin Castillo...He was an incredible fighter. He is now a shot fighter. No one would have ever thought he could possibly be KO'd in four by Montiel!!! He just didn't have it anymore. The skills of the little guys have to be much sharper to compete at the elite level. When you lose just that little bit of speed or timing against a still elite, prime fighter he will give you a whipping.
Ledwaba sucked ass. It was another fighter Hbo tried to build up. Remember his fight on the undercard of Lewis v. Rahman 1? Ledwaba looked like shit and was easy to hit.
Fana an easy target for Barrera at least again became Champion, can't say that about ledwaba.
Ledwaba was the IBF champ at the time when he lost to Pacquiao.
Despite him being the champion, is he already a shot fighter. Most likely past his prime?

i believe he is getting there he showed some rust against juarez who gave him a good battle, although he has maybe 4-5 more fights b4 you can call him a shot fighter
I would say past his prime, I wouldn't say shot.
Couldn't have said it better. Even Manny Steward and Kellerman said he's lost a step during the Jaca fight.
naw Pacquiaos distruction of the highly touted LEDWABA was his best.
Pacman showed he is something special, he only had 2 weeks with roach and he was a last minute replacement and an easy supposed journey men for ledwaba to demolish...then you could hear the words of merchant and lampley almost like a predicition of things to come..."I never heard of him(pacquiao), I have never seen him but I wanna see him again"

No, JMM is not a shot fighter and hasn't even come close to showing that he is a shot fighter. His skills are probably diminishing a bit, but that is only because he is getting older and is probably a bit past his prime now. A shot fighter would be Jose Luis Castillo or Meldrick Taylor
Right yeah.
But JLC struggled with a little known prospect albeit good fighter prior to appearing washed up against Hatton. In the Ngoudjo fight, he showed that he didn't have the same fighting spirit he once did.
Now if JMM showed up old against Pac, lol that would be a shock. Especially once again taking into account his recent performance(s) against Juarez and Barrera.
Yeah... well fuck Castillo.
Barrera looked great (I think it is pretty much universally agreed upon that he did) against Marquez, but showed up old against Pacquiao, without much warning, other than the fact that after every even numbered bout in Barrera's career, the general public decided that he was shot.
What happens if he gets in the ring and his balance is no better than Jose Luis Castillo's?
Even if there was no previous indicator, if it is that evident, then I think it is okay to call him shot.

Well since everyone is on the little guys growing old overnight thing..........I suppose it's a possibility for just about anyone to cruise past their primes in the span of two or three fights.
But it doesn't seem logical to try and predict that yet, LMFAO.
There needs to be a tell tale indicator.
