Since everyone seems to be caring so much for this division... let's review it as a whole and stop posting some much nonsense and speculations. Let's be fair to all of them. Forget who is your boy and just straight up rank them.
WELTERWEIGHTS

PAUL WILLIAMS 33-0 (24)
KERMIT CINTRON 28-1 (26)

SHANE MOSLEY 44-5 (37)
ANTONIO MARGARITO 34-5 (24)

OKTAY URKAL 38-4 (12)
That's how I see the Big Picture. THAT'S MY RANKING. I believe Floyd and Cotto are the best two, so for obvious reasons I will love to see the best 2 fight each other. Both have beed brought up "protected" and not until recently that both have decided to take bigger challenges. But after Cotto beating Quintana, Judah, and Mosley... he got an edge. To predict a winner between Cotto and Mayweather Jr., you can't just say; "______ is going to kill _______". Not posible. Both are the best and the cream of the Division.
Cintron and Williams got what it takes to give us what could be one of the best fights of 2008. Both could upset Floyd and Cotto any given Saturday. Their height, and styles (speed vs. power) can matchup well agaisnt Cotto and Floyd. Just mix the four of them and get the best welterweight, period.
Mosley, Margarito and Judah should be out of the picture. Their recent loses says a lot. Judah got outboxed by Floyd and then got his ass kicked by Cotto. Mosley just lost to Cotto. Margarito was ducked by Floyd and Cotto, period. Margarito humiliated Cintron, but then again, he was schooled by Williams. So these three are the ones who need to fight each other and wait to see what happens after the ones in the top unify the weight.
Hatton is over rated and will lose to any of the ones above him. Mayweather chose to fight him cause it is as a sure bet can be. Collazo, also had his chance to glory but lost KEY FIGHTS. Quintana was doing well until he faced Cotto. Clottey, Bonsu and Urkal round up whatever is left out there.
As you may see, I don't include Oscar De La Hoya since he is just like a rotten apple that should retire from active boxing and concentrate on wife and promotions. With such a fine woman, I would be expending more time at home... :439:
the same Baldomir who lost to 11 unknowns? What has Baldomir done that's segnificant? Beat an overrated Judah, an old Gatti who wasn't even good in his own prime?
Dude when you get through. He still was the champ and you cant dispute the facts. Its not my fault that the WBC had him ranked so high. Take you arguement to the WBC boards not me. I was just pointing out the fact that he was the WBC ring magazine Champ. Who gives a fuck what his career was about. I will take the WBC opinion over yours to keep real with you. Dont call me stupid when I just pointed out that Floyd fought the the champ(Baldomir) instead of the # 1 contender ( Margorito)
Lets just agree to disagree because its clear you will belittle everything Floyd has done.
Its funny you call Judah a bum(overrated its all the same in my book) and that is one of Cotto greatest wins. So I guese Cotto beat a bum to right. Come on HOmie cut the bullshit. With your logic, I guese Cotto has only one legit win in Mosley.
Stop putting shit in a double standard my friend:D
Homie shut the fuck up. You dont even know what the fucking Conversation was about. When you get through running your dick eater, Baldomir was the Champ when Floyd faced him. Oscar was a champ at 154 so what does he have to do with the welter weight ranking. FUCK BOY!!

Your just as fucking stupid. You don't know about Oscar before the welter division and even said he lost all his big fights

You really have limited boxing knowledge. Fuck it, I'm just gone be real with you, YOU SUCK ASS A POSTER. If you knew anything boxing you would know that Baldomir hasnt lost a fight in almost 9 years when he faced Floyd at the time. He was hot also(on a winning streak). He was considered the man of the WW divison( at the time he faced Floyd). So please explain yourself on Baldomir being a fucking journeyman when he is the man holding the ring magazine belt.(the most popular belt to get and the number one spot).
Please I'm open minded to hear your rebutal!

Checking this thread, and comparing to the one that questions if Margarito should be ranked over Williams or not??? Only 1 ranked Margarito higher than Williams. and MOST EVEN RANKED CINTRON HIGHER THAN MARGARITO. Interesting... Margarito will not be even mentioned by the end of next year... ha! ha!
Some of these top 4-5 rankings in here aren't objective. There are fighters being placed above rank via potential instead of what they've actually done at welter.
Dude, that's why we post our opinions. If you get more posts and rankings... you could actually due the math avearge and rank the WW the way we all see at this website.. (well, does who post..) Obviously must eliminate those sick fanatics lopsided ranking... also called error margin.
Hatton's not a WW, Cintron got smashed down the ladder in his fight with Margarito, Mayweather hasn't proven himself against the top WWs and Cotto needs to fight a Mayweather, Williams or Margarito before he can be "head and shoulders" above the rest.
Agreed.........
IMO the WWs and the Jr. WWs are the best divisions in boxing. The Middleweights are good, but the welters are better. I'm talking generically here. I just like watching those fights....power and speed...it's a beautiful thing to watch. Nothing like the drama of a heavyweight bout between two world beaters...no doubt. But, those are too far and few between. The welters are consistently better fights. IMO.
Looks like quite a few people are posting respectable, sound opinions. Then again, looks like there are a few trolls. I think the true state of the welterweight division will unfold after this year, probably middle of next year. With the year boxing has produced, its way too up-in-the-air to say who's the best in the division; too many things can happen. If Hatton beats Floyd (Hopefully), if Cotto loses to or narrowly beats his next opponent, if Cintron loses (again), Margarito could go on a rampage, Williams could lose (not likely). If any of this stuff happens then previous victories and opponents have to get re-evaluated. By mid-next year, hopefully it'll look something like:
1. Floyd/Hatton (I put him up at 1 because he will continue to to be talked about, actively, if he wins or loses controversially to Floyd).
2. Floyd (If he loses)
3. Williams
4. Cotto / Cintron
5. Hatton (if he loses obviously)
6. Margarito
Just my two cents.
P.S. - Williams reminds me of Kevin Garnett
he is the spitting image of chad johnson

Good list man Berto should be there somewhere though. Floyd faces Williams-Cintron winner around July or August. Cotto faces Margarito sometime around March or April then the two can fight to unify the division by the end of the year in 08 or early 09, that's how I would dream things would work out.
Added Berto later, my bad.

mayweather and cotto head and shouldrs above! cintron and hetton next! and the chasing pack are the others!

welterweight is definately where its at.
i would definately like to see quintana and collazo fight again, maybe against each other.
Hey! That's a great fight. It beats Vargas-Mayorga by far. The winner of Collazo-Quintana should fight the winner between Margarito-Judah or better yet a Margarito-Hatton.. And there we all get a true contender to fight for a belt and whom ever got them. Mosley most likely retire. DLH should retire.
1. Floyd
2. Cotto
-. DLH- Would beat almost any WW out there if he trained hard like he did for PBF
3. Mosley- Behind DLH because he lost the speed that he used to win their 1st 2 fights
4. Williams
5. Margarito
6. Cintron- Might actually be better than 6th since Steward took over, but needs to prove it
7. Judah- Say what you want, but he can beat anyone from #4 down if his mind is right
-. Hatton- Only fight at 147 is the reason he's so low, but he's much better than a lot of these guys
8. Clottey- Tough fight for anyone
9. Collazo
10. Lots of guys who could prove to be in the mix.
Yeah that's pretty good.
As a fighter I rate Hatton on a top ten P4P list. But no way should he be rated as a top five Welterweight. That's absurd.
