i'm just happy that a great fight got good publicity.. it was on national tv, and it's a popular show.. boxing needs this exposure, it's a step up.. there are so many great fights that need to be watched, and hopefully boxing get's the popularity that it needs, either way i'm a boxing fan for LIFE!!!! and i'm sure that all of u are too
Yeah, great fight. 1st round is round of the year hands down. Reminded me alot of the Moorer-Cooper fight with the knockdowns and each fight getting hurt numerous times. I still have to go with Taylor-Pavlik as FOTY just because it had such a build up and the fact that it was a title fight and Pavlik was the underdog.
This was a title fight!
For the Contender Belt!!
Duh lol...
The Contender belt is so much better than some shitty WBO, IBF whatever belt.

If your looking for the highest level of boxings fight of the year its Vazquez/Marquez.
If your talking straight entertainment (still a high level, it was no club fight) it was tonight's Bika/Codrington. In part because they are both bigger than Vazquez/Marquez and in another because of the winging hooks and punches both were throwing and landing. The people that I was with were like "damn, they want that money bad."
But it was depressing to see a bunch of cowards sucker punching each other (knicks/nuggets game last year) open sportscenter instead of a great slug-fest between two guys showing unbelievable heart.
Yeah I kept it on ESPN, and they are showing BB playing trying to throw hands, I turned that shit off. Fuck the mainstream Media, they can keep jerking off to pictures of Tiger Woods for all I care.
yeah I have pav / taylor as fight of the year. Much more on the line, much more at stake. This was def what the contender needed though after grady brewer won it last year.

This was a much better fight than either Pavlik/Taylor or Cotto/Judah. WOW. I still have Marquez/Vazquez, but this was absolutely amazing. Only the names and importance of the other two keep them elevated.
I'd say the fight was better than Cotto-Judah. But I don't think it was better than Pavlik-Taylor, and certainly not MUCH better. Codrington-Bika was more action-packed, but all things considered, Pavlik-Taylor was the better fight. An undefeated challenger coming off the canvas to knock out the undefeated champion and take his undisputed title in the process? That's a thing of beauty.
Marquez-Vazquez II may trump them both though.
i agree 1st roudn roud of there year any other year this would be up there for fight of the year but 2007 was a great year in boxing ...both men showed amazing heart ..this is prolly the 3rd time including pavlik taylor calz kessler that im saying this "i take nothing away from either man both gave it there all and would love 2 see them again "....ppl always underestamated bika he gave calz a pretty good run the same calz that domintaed kessle n lacy
Revs....all Bika did with Calzaghe was go the distance. The scores were 117-110 if I recall.
It's a FOTY contender but I don't think it'll get FOTY honors. I got Marquez vs Vazquez 2 and Pavlik vs Taylor ahead of this fight.
But it was definitely a very good action fight. Both fighters showed their heart in round one which was amazing.

I loved Marquez/Vasquez too as well and it was better technically as well, but the action of Bika/Codrington was amazing. For me right now it's fight of the year. If either won though I wouldn't be upset.
I think it would be excellent for boxing if it won FOTY. just good publicity for the Contender to have when it starts advertising for SEASON 4.
But at the same time, if you give the FOTY to its rightful owner, Marquez-Vazquez II, then maybe people will see that and say "wow, there was a fight better then Codrington-Bika? Let me see that.."
u know?
I do however, think that round for round, This was a more exciting and dramatic fight then Pavlik-Taylor (which is saying something), ANd is maybe the greatest Supermiddleweight bout of all time. It hasnt been around long, so im not sure which fights were in this divisoin, but i cant think of many at all being better then that...
Absolutely not, especially when you factor in fights like Taylor/Pavlik, Marquez/Vazquez, Cotto/Judah, etc........Great fight though but it's pretty much impossible for it to be a FOTY candidate this year.
It was better than those two fights for sure. Marquez/Vazquez is it's biggest competition though.
there's still some fights to go, and u can argue that other fights were better.. i just think that we should appreciate the fight, i enjoyed it, and i'm sure all of u did too, whether its fight of the year or not, haha, i love boxing.. it's great to be a boxing fan
I wouldn't rate Pavlik/Taylor any higher than Bika/Codrington...tonight's fight to me had better sustained action throughout..mainly because they were really going at it the whole way...Taylor/Pavlik had awesome moments and is held in high regard considering the level and importance...but imagine tonights fight with Taylor and Pavlik as the fighters? Would have been much better...
My money is on Vasquez/Marquez II....hard to top this one...I was reacting every round to that rematch...Taylor/Pavlik had a few rounds of more Boxing between the knockdown and knockout
Likewise, I vividly remember applauding at the beginning and end of every round. I also was doing shots of Jose Cuervo whenever the action intensified, so I was well fucking hammered by the time of the stoppage.
