A few minutes ago I saw on boxrec that he's had a recent first round knockout victory over a guy good enough to go the distance with Sinan Samil Sam.
How did he look? 237 lbs huh? Almost as light as he was for Chris Byrd. I know the weight isn't everything (he was outclassed by Byrd after all) but maybe it shows us he's become a little bit more disciplined. Can't be a bad sign at least, right?
The point is, I've always like Tua. Nice guy, intelligent, the kind of person we need in boxing, who can bring in more casual fans. Now if Tua the athlete can catch up to where Tua the man is, we'll have one hell of a contender on our hands.
Can you say David Tua vs. Samuel Peter? A slugfest for the ages that would be, if Tua could just get his shit completely sorted out.
Tua has been avoiding big fights for sometime now. Briggs, Brewster and I think I heard about Toney. Anyway it's his lost fighting no name people, maybe he just wants to have a ridiculous amount of wins. Anyway people are talking about the hardest hitting fight of today, it definetly would have to be Chagaev vs. Peter
Didn't Tua get knocked down by Rahman after the bell rang? I never saw it, but just heard of it.
The power puncher that Ibeabuchi was and all those punches he landed on Tua's head proved Tua had an iron chin.
yeah it would have been a legit KD if it wasn't after the bell but if I remember correctly Tua was caught off balance, wasn't hurt and got straight back up.

So would I, it's just a question of Tua's heart and determination. And I think that the David Tua we saw last saturday wants desperately to be back in the hw mix and in line for a world title shot.
I agree that the sport and especially the hw division could use a guy like Tua to provide some excitement. However, Tua seems to be taking the most conservative approach to his comeback by selecting low risk opponents like Montana. I would love to see Tua back on HBO fighting a decent opponent like Brewster, Arreola, Liakhovich, or even James Toney...
Basically, he needs to generate some excitement by fighting a credible opponent..
I'd fancy him to beat all the fighters you've listed. I hope he comes back properly as i wasnt into boxing when he was at his best an fighting ike and the others. But from what i've seen of his chin and power i cant see whay he couldnt beat a chagaev or ibragimov.

Sadly for him, he got all the title shots against decent fighters who weren't old, and were bad style match ups for him. Thing is, Tua's biggest assets can sometimes be his downfall.
Lewis knew how to use his reach. You knew Tua had the power to knock Lewis's head off but it was quite sad seeing him struggle to land anything clean.

Tua is one of my favourite guys. With all the shit beltholders there have been recently, how can this man with awesome power + chin never have held a title?!
he has good power but he's slow and doesnt throw enough punches to beat any of the belt holders in my opinion. even a green maskeav who had like 7 pro fights was beating tua handily until he got caught in the 11th round. this was when tua was in his prime with much faster hands and better stamina at the time

But at least you know hes never getting ko'd. I dont think klit could KO tuaman.
both klits would probably kayo the tua of today. he's much slower and easier to hit. It would probably be more of a mercy stoppage than a clean kayo as tua has those tree trunks for legs
best chin in the world at the moment , maybe of all times.
Great chin. I do remember him getting dropped & TKO'd by Felix Savon but that was a boy fighting a man.
Tua vs. Briggs would be a great fight that is more realistic at this point in time. Tua, despite the bulky look, actually carries his punch with him into the later rounds. For that reason Briggs would be in serious trouble in the later rounds I think, especially if Tua can land that hook to the body early to weaken him. Has Briggs ever felt a hook of that caliber?
Spot on on your last line. It doesn't seem like he's determined enough. After all, he didn't want to fight Shannon Briggs so I have doubts if he would want a war with the likes of Sam Peter. But yeah, now that he's fighting often, is back in shape and his older weight, I really hope he's hungry enough to be champion. He's one of my favorite fighters, and I hate seeing him without a title he should have.
