Many avarage fans think that phisique is everything in boxing...well sure it help looking at a cut boxer but that has to nothing with boxing ...boxing is about the sweet science-hit and not get hit ...one of the best boxers in the scene today and in fact for the last 15 years has been James Toney a master boxer, a throw back to an era when boxing skills were actually stress and study....on the other hand you got a guy like Lacy, impossing cut, and yet so hittable that his weakness have been exposed....that;s the thing about boxing, you stay long enough and someone will exposed your deficiencies....as a former boxer the boxers dislike the most to fight were the tall lanky southpaws, the had leverage, power and awkarness to give you trouble.....
I think the Ring is a fine standard for that. They update their ratings often and if you rebound from a loss with a good win then you are right back in there. There is no better criteria looking at the fractured titles and their different top 10 ratings. At least the Ring has a consensus.
Obviously you can be a great fighter and not have to be great for 10 years straight. At least Toney is still here. That's more than can be said for Liles, McClellan, Benn, Eubank, and Roy himself.
Hardly anyone.
Few fighters are ranked top ten p4p over a period of 15 years. It just does not happen. Roy was there for about 10 years or so if I'm right, and Oscar was probably there for 7-8 years? Dunno...would have to look at the rankings.
Well going off the ring p4p rankings wouldn't exactly be grounds to say that one fighter has been GREAT year in and year out for that last 15 years as was being debated. In that case...nobody has. Oscar has had close calls, controversy and losses ever since he fought Quartey. Jones was great for about 10 years...from Hopkins to Ruiz...but he even had minor blowups.
Well who really has been in that case?
Hardly anyone.

In the early 90s he was great. Didn't really do anything in the 80s that people remember. Williams and McCallum were the early fights that made him.
Then, when he resurged at cruiserweight with Goosen, he was also very good. Toney was in no way great for the past 15 years. He was great at different times over the last 15 years, but not year in and year out.

Toney was great in the early 90s and also had a resurgence when he fought Jirov. He has not been one of the best throughout the last 15 years though.
Somehow this isn't a shock.
His early career from '88 - '94 was GREAT...
His resurgence after the tough losses against Jones and Griffin was tough as he struggled with weight and bad decisions (see Griffin II)...
His comeback after that ugly Thadzi fight was also pretty special. What he's doing right now is special. ('99 - present)
Come on now...
Why do people hate on Wlad, most great champs take a few L's now and then. The only loss I think he looked really bad in was against Corrie Sanders, I don't think he was ready for a lefty and with that kind of power. But since then he has been trainin real hard and has seemed to improve his defense and stamina. Wlad looked real good against the undefeated Brock last match, his jab in the later rounds was unstoppable. I think he has a great shot of unifying the belts if given the opportunity.
It not the L's is the drop.....

Man that had to do nothing with stared downs or nothjing Spinks was frozen pizza ever since they signed the fight up, he was resolved to take the dive after the first big hit....that was one of boxing most embarrasing moments....I am not a big Tyson fan...since half the battle on his first 25 fights or so were won by a very calculated set by Cuz Amato to create this image of Tyson....
Im a big Tyson fan but yeah spinks was beat before they got in the ring, because of intimadation! But im thinkin overall intimadation, do u just mean look? Tyson loked mean but i think it was his rep that got to fighters
I think wlad looks intimidating.

it was a joke.
he does look intimidating with his size and staredown though, then he gets tagged with a clean shot and freezes and flops over the place.
I think wlad looks intimidating.

U got that rite! But that aint what im saying, im thinkin more like Spinks freezing up against Tyson. Intimadation definately helped him, but say Ali, wouldnt hav been intimadated and fought his best fight, u feel me?

If the guy is there ready to fight, never assume anything...even if he look weak...underestimating your opponents have lose many fights for boxers....many!!!
