Wow, I hope no Peter fans are on here actually claiming he won that fight. I gave him 4 rounds generously. Toney took his punches well except in the 5th and dominated that fight. He made it look easy just like I predicted he would. Toney got robbed plain and simple. Anybody else notice that the three judges were completely unheard of? I didn't recognize one name.
That fight was all about Showtime stroking the 25 year old fighter with a longer future and giving him the won, hoping that future fights will be on showtime. That was fucking bullshit. Toney clearly wont hat fight. Fuck that shit.
it was shady

It did feel that way.

you nailed it.. that's how my underlying feeling is

I don't see how anyone could pick 8 rounds that Peter won in the fight. He'd need to win 8 rounds to get a decision with his point deduction. I just don't see it. Those scorecards were absolutely crazy.
Peter showed a few things that won him the fight, the first is a better work ethic than Toney. Even in the late rounds he was active. Toney was getting caught more than I've ever seen in my life. Toney may have had the edge in punches landed/taken, but since Peter was the aggressor and did more damage to Toney than Toney did to him...Which isn't really a fair way to judge a fight being that Toney's so much smaller than Peter, but some judges do that. They'll take into consideration who's taken the most punishment, and Toney took more punishment in that fight than Peter did.
Someone has to get an animated .gif of Sam doing the Bear Hugger special on Toney. Where he slapped his head with both gloves at the same time.
why does everyone act like they've never seen that before. did you not see Botha do the exact same thing to Tyson?
Thank you for admitting the truth, but didn't you pick Peter? I'm glad you at least can admit you scored it for Toney.
me too
i wanted to see peter put toney on his ass
but i had it 115-112 for toney
7 rds toney:1,2,4,6,7,8,11
4 rds peter:3,5,10,12
9th rd even w/ pt deduction- gave it to peter
now they can market peter and revitalize teh heavies on the hopes that he will ko maskaev
I agree 100%. What made it worse was the scores. That wide margin for Peter doesn't make sense...
It makes perfect sense. The judges who had those scores picked who was gonna win before the fight even started.
Toney won the rounds he won in a big way, but Peter won just about all of those close rounds through being the aggressor and actually knocking Toney back when he did connect. Even his jab was forcing Toney backwards. There was only one instance in the fight where Toney landed a combo and it actually caused Peter to hesitate to take a forward step.
This is pro boxing, not the amateur racket. You don't win a round by landing a higher % of punches than your opponent, you win it by doing more noticeable damage to your opponent with those punches than he does to you with his. It's quality over quantity in the pro game. That's why knockdowns have so much sway (10-8) on the judges card. If you stagger a guy in the round, and in that same round he doesn't stagger you once, and aside from that the the guy hasn't completed shut you out, then you win the round.
Peter's frigging jab was forcing Toney back every time it landed. That is more effective than a counter uppercut that doesn't make the opponent even blink. I don't care how crafty, quick, and dangerous looking that uppercut is, the punches that actually force a guy back count much more heavily in scoring.
How in the hell did you give Peter the last round? Oh yeah, where's the point deduction? You didn't even take off the point for the double rabbit punch. Other than that, my card matches yours. Your card should be 115-112, with the point deduction. I thought Toney won the last round rather easily, so I've got 116-111. That's not close.
i was drunk and forgot to count the point deduction. my card is 115-112 too. i dont remember toney doing alot in the last round either
I watched the fight and had James winning by 3 rounds at the end. As soon as they announced a split decision I knew James was gonna get screwed.
What bullshit!
I don't want to keep beating a dead dog here, but, JAMES TONEY WON THAT FUCKING FIGHT!!!!!!!!!! that was the biggest disgrace in scoring, a fucking travisty! what the fuck do these corrupt officals think we are? stupid!?! what fans can't score a fight!?! fucking Stevie Wonder even seen Toney laydown a lesson on peter. the judges were and are total rotten crap, seriously, 116-111 for peter is outragesous.
honestly this fight and those judges should be under review. i think that us fans of BOXING deserve it and we deserve better! shit, we pay for the fights, we buy the fucking tickets, we get the merchandise, we buy the ppv's, we pay for our cable service so we can see showtime fights and hbo fight. we should be treated better when it comes to shit like this. even if it was the other way around, robberies suck to watch. they take the integrity out of the fight( i would include boxing too, but what for, it's fucked all over). they take something that could be special and turn it into controversy, which in turns mars the fight.
James Toney clearly won this fight without a doubt and he was completely screwed. Toney outclassed peter the whole fight.
and I think somethings need to be said about Toney's chin as well as peters power.
James Toney's chin is a world class chin, he ate some solid shots from peter and kept on doing his thing. a couple of peter's shots got Toney's attention, but nothing ever hurt him. Toney's chin is never to be questioned...........ever!
as for sam peter, why couldn't he knock out a former middle weight? he had more than his fair tries at Toney and couldn't do it. peter did land some big shots but he didn't follow them up and when he did he missed. while peter was swinging away like a rookie, Toney was using his defense and countering peter on the inside. it looks more compelling when the BIGGER guy lands punches verses the smaller guy, everyone is hanging on to see if the knockout comes from the big guy, but Toney wasn't phased at a bit.
sam peters' x-mas came early this year, Toney got the lump of coal...............totally fucked!
That fight was easily 115-112 for Toney. 116-111 for peter is some crooked under hand shit period. Peter landed maybe 4 or 5 big shots and missed like hell during combos. James landed flush multiple times and busted up peters face with the Jab. I can tell you right now the punch stat numbers would be way in favor of James. James won that fight easily. An Investigation needs to happen.

There is no way peter won that fught, let alone by the 5 points that thise two moron judges had him ahead by. That was bullshit. Toney was straight up robbed tonight!!
im a huge toney fan, and i admit that he didnt dominate tonight and at times he let peter look like he was controlling the fight. i still had him winning 115-113, but there were rounds where peter landed some big shots that seemed to have toney reeling a bit. heres my round by round breakdown
1- 10-9 toney wins the round
2 - 20/18 toney
3 - 29/28 peter
4 - 39/37 toney
5 - 48/47 peter
6 - 58/56 toney
7 - 68/65 toney
8 - 77/75 peter
9 - 87/84 toney
10 - 96/94 peter
11 - 106/103 toney
12 - 115/113 peter
toney takes the close decision. its unbelievable that anyone could have it 116-111 for peter
