Former IBF super flyweight champion Zolani Tete continued his pursuit for another world title after scoring a lop sided points win over Filipino Jether Oliva to pick up a regional title at Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa on Friday. However Tete (22-3, 18 KOs) paid dearly for the win as he aggravate his shoulder and hand injury he had suffered in training days before the fight.

FORMER IBF junior bantamweight champion and South African Zolani Tete is set to sign a multi year promotional contract with top British promoter Frank Warren. Tete and his manager Mla Tengimfene flew to UK this week to meet Warren and engaged in negotiations which brought them closer to penning a contract. Tete reportedly agreed terms which are said to be a three-year deal involving three fights per year starting with a non title fight in UK this December.

THE camp of former world champion Nkosinathi “Mabhere” Joyi is blaming everyone but the boxer for his first round knock out defeat by Filipino Rey Loreto in Mdantsane, East London, South Africa earlier this year. Joyi was destroyed in less than two minutes after being bundled to the canvas twice forcing South African referee Tony Nyangiwe to stop the fight after the second knockdown without bothering to count. The stoppage which came after Loreto had dropped Joyi on the ropes with an uppercut following a knockdown from a left hook, was greeted with silence by the scores of fans which came to support Joyi as the fight was held just a few metres away from his NU 1 Mdantsane home.

IT is rare for a promoter to criticize an outcome favoring his boxer but that is exactly what Johnny Muller’s promoter Rodney Berman has done after Muller was awarded an undeserved split decision over Mateusz Masternak in their cruiserweight clash at Emperors Palace at the weekend. Muller was floored twice, the second time in the seventh round and literally took punishment throughout the round.

The camp of South African fighter Simpiwe Vetyeka has decided on his next step and it wants him to challenge WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters. However Walters' promoter Bob Arum is reportedly reluctant to match the Jamaican against “V12” preferring to let him unify with WBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko instead. Vetyeka got back to the win column when he scored a one sided points decision over Mexican Arturo Santos Reyes in East London last month.
