YET another high profile boxer has sidestepped fiery WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete. This time it is Japanese star Naoya Inoue who has decided to seek a title in another direction rather than challenge Tete even though he had intimated that he will do so beforehand.
THE promise of facing his compatriot Roman Golovashchenko in two months time is motivating Dmytro Kucher to leave nothing to chance when he challenges IBO cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena at Emperor Palace in South Africa on Saturday night. The 32-year-old Ukrainian made his intentions clear at the premedical of the fight at the fight venue on Tuesday.
AS previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Zolani Tete's mandatory WBO world bantamweight title defence has been rescheduled for April 21 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Tete (26-3, 21 Kos) will defend against Argentinean veteran Omar Narvaez in a rescheduled bout after their first date, planned for last Saturday, fell through when Tete suffered a calf muscle injury in training.
ONCE again the high levels of crime in South Africa may end the career of a promising boxer. This after IBF Intercontinental bantamweight champion Mzuvukile Magwaca was shot during a robbery at his Khayelitsha home in Cape Town recently. According to reports the thugs burst into Magwaca's home and demanded a television set while also demanding the occupants to hand over a cell phone and cash.
ZOLANI Tete’s highly anticipated WBO world bantamweight title defence against Argentinean Omar Narvaez has been postponed after the South African suffered an injury in training. According to Tete’s manager Mla Tengimfene, Tete suffered a calf injury while running on the sand in preparation for the fight that was scheduled to be held at Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick in London on February 10.
NEW world record holder Zolani Tete on Monday arrived to a hero's welcome at his home in East London, South Africa following his 11 seconds knockout win over Siboniso Gonya in Belfast on Saturday. Tete set a new record for the fastest fight in a championship bout when he drilled his compatriot with the first and only punch of the fight in six seconds.
Histrians will have to dig deep in their archives to find out if South African Siboniso Gonya is the first ever boxer coming from a polygamous family to challenge for a world title. Gonya, 25, will challenge for the WBO bantamweight title against compatriot Zolani Tete (25-3, 20 KOs) at SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Saturday.
RARELY does Zolani Tete go to a fight with a brash attitude than he is doing right now ahead of his maiden WBO bantamweight title defence against little known compatriot Siboniso Gonya in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 18. Tete (25-3, 20 KOs) is an angry boxer going to this fight at SSE Arena due to a number of issues.
ZOLANI Tete is not bothered by the new corner for his upcoming maiden WBO bantamweight title clash arguing that the current trainers handling him were serving as assistants when chief trainer Loyiso Mtya was calling the shots. The 29-year-old South African southpaw is deep in camp preparing for the first defence against compatriot Siboniso Gonya on November 18.
Azinga Fuzile!!! Remember this name because it is destined for stardom. Those who were doubting him-and there were many- even admitted that the 21-year old left hander is a rare boxing breed. But no one can bear testimony to that more than Tshifhiwa Munyai who was bundled to the canvas three times inside three rounds and finally called a no mas. Fuzile and Munyai were contesting South Africa's Featherweight Super Four Series at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
