Brick City Grill - Newark, NJ - Kathy Duva, Main Events, CEO: "It occurred to me that you hear a lot of stories the night after a fight that the main event was great but the under card was awful. Well our story today is that not just the main event is going to be great, but that the under card is going to be great too."

Talk about a boxing fan's dream! For the upcoming Brick City Boxing Series show at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at Newark's Prudential Center on Friday, May 20th, Main Events matchmakers Russell Peltz and Jolene Mizzone have put together a card sure to please boxing enthusiasts. A surprising number of those scheduled to fight on next Friday's undercard have come in as underdogs and upset previously undefeated fighters. Will history repeat itself on May 20th?

Main Events CEO, Kathy Duva, today officially announced a new opponent for Joel Julio's May 20th welterweight bout. Julio (36-4, 31KOs) will take on Anges Adjaho, of Cotonou, Benin (Africa), 17-5, 9KO's. Antwone Smith was forced to withdraw from his fight against Joel Julio because of an elbow injury. For Julio this fight is particularly important because it will be his first test back at the 147 weight class.

Main Events CEO, Kathy Duva, confirmed a May 20th junior middleweight bout featuring Joel Julio (36-4, 31KOs) vs. Antwone Smith (20-2-1, 12KOs). The fight will be the main event in the next installment of the Main Events Brick City Boxing Series, held in the intimate boxing club environment of Prudential Center's AmeriHealth Pavilion, Newark, New Jersey. The fight will be broadcast on ESPN 2, 9-11pm EST. The fight is promoted by Main Events in association with DiBella Entertainment. Local fighter favorites to be featured on the undercard include: Sadam "World Kid' Ali of Brooklyn, NY; Jose "Mangu" Peralta of Jersey City, NJ; Vinny O'Brien of East Hanover, NJ; and Tyrone Luckey of Middletown, NJ.

"This is a very important fight and we've seen lots of fighters in this situation look past the guy in front of him. In this situation Tomasz is putting a lot on the line and we really have got to give him all the respect in the world for continuing to stay active and wanting to challenge himself as much as he can, before he gets to that fight he's been working for literally his whole life."

Brooklyn's Sadam "World Kid" Ali, 11-0, 6 KO's, will step up into the co-feature on Saturday, April 9th vs. tough Javier Perez, of Ponce, Puerto Rico, when Tomasz Adamek faces Kevin McBride at Newark's Prudential Center.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Sergei Liakhovich has been forced to withdraw from his planned fight with Johnnie White on the undercard of Tomasz Adamek vs. Kevin McBride on Saturday, April 9th at Newark's Prudential Center Arena, Kathy Duva of Main Events announced today. "Unfortunately, Sergei reported that he suffered a minor rib injury in training, yesterday, and his doctor recommended that he wait until at least mid-April before he engages in any contact," she explained. "We had been looking forward to presenting Sergei for the first time in Newark and we are so sorry that his first appearance with Main Events will have to wait, but what is most important is that Sergei recover fully from his injury." Main Events is searching for an alternate date for Liakhovich and plans to make an announcement as soon as it is arranged.

Sergei Liakhovich is training to take on Johnnie White in a 10 round heavyweight bout on the April 9th Adamek vs. McBride card at Newark's Prudential Center. "White Wolf" took time out to talk about his training and future plans.

TOMASZ ADAMEK QUOTES FROM HIS MEDIA WORKOUT: Fernwood Resort, Bushkill, PA - "Fighting Kevin McBride is a good test for me. We had a good camp. I am in the ring with Roger every day. I am six, seven weeks training very hard. As you know, Roger changed me a lot. I have more movement. When I punch somebody I hit them up. I am more flexible in the ring, I can change. I feel I can fight anybody and win."
