The former “Contender" contestant and his manager Eric Ramirez allege that the promoter was difficult to deal with when faced with complaints about the lack of phones in the hotel, as well as no transportation to the gym to train prior to the fight.

Rematch Analysis: Miguel Cotto Should Beat Margarito

Keith Terceira

•Jul 29, 2008

By Keith Terceira - The dust from this weekends “Battle” between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto has not even cleared and already thoughts of a rematch are building anticipation in my gut. As predicted Margarito’s uppercuts, strength, chin, and relentless attack stole the show and he prevailed against the odds makers. Antonio Margarito is the man of the hour and he has long deserved his place in the limelight. Is Miguel Cotto a finished champion who has been exposed? I think not, if anything in my book he showed bigger potential than prior to his loss. In his defeat I have gained a new respect for the Puerto Rican native that I had reserved until after he faced what many believe to be the toughest fighter in the division. Though the toughest, Margarito is not undefeatable. Let’s get one thing straight form the beginning of this piece this is not a knock on Margo or in any way a slap in his direction. It is simply my own thoughts of where Cotto and his camp went wrong in their game plan against the constant pressure of Antonio Margarito. It is also my perspective on why another fight could possibly favor Cotto, unless done to quickly , where I then feel it favors Margarito.

Antonio Margarito; Not Quite the Underdog in "The Battle"

Keith Terceira

•Jul 24, 2008

by Keith Terceira - An MGM “Grand” event is about to take place in Las Vegas this weekend when WBA welterweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto (32-0 26 KOs) squares off against Antonio Margarito (36-5 26 KOs). The recent rash of bad PPV events will take a backseat when these two step into the ring to settle just who is the giant of the 147 pound division. I’ll leave the promo’s for the fight to HBO and get right into the brass tacks of the fight. Miguel Cotto brings to Nevada the style that Americans love to watch, that brawling, in your face at all times swarming technique that harkens back to Dempsey, Marciano, and Hagler in a 147 pound package. Just like those fighters though he eats way to many punches for my liking. Defensively Cotto has begun to improve as his level of competition increased but in Antonio Margarito he will face his first welterweight in a light middleweight’s body. Cotto has thrilled fight fans with his durability, punching power, and in the manner that he seems to get stronger as a fight wears on, but that was against junior welters not true big men of the current division he holds a title in. Shane Mosley is the only true 147-pounder that Cotto has faced and never has Cotto faced a top ranked welterweight fighter over 5’ 9”. Mosley showed us that a real welterweight takes some of the late round surge from the Caguas native but I will touch on that later.

Roger Mayweather in Richard Abril’s Corner on FNF

Keith Terceira

•Jun 26, 2008

On Wednesday, Richard “El Tigre” Abril (10-0-1 5KO) missed the most important press conference of his relatively short professional career.. His opponent for this weeks Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 took it as proof that Abril had not been training or was afraid to stand face to face with Breidas Prescott (18-0 17KO) prior to fight night. To say that the Prescott camp was exuding confidence would be an understatement. Comments such as these were hurled around the press conference with no Richard Abril to counter them.

Margules Responds to Marquez-McKart Decision

Keith Terceira

•May 2, 2008

Seminole Warriors Boxing’s executive director Leon Margules took the time today to respond to the investigation and possible change in the decision of Raul Marquez’s bout with Bronco McKart. Though we confirmed yesterday with Fight Fax that the change had already been issued by the Saginaw Chippewa Boxing Commission from a split decision in favor of Raul to a majority draw. It came as quite a surprise to the Seminole Warriors Boxing head because it was only yesterday that he received notice of an investigation.
