At the Ioka Boxing Gym in the city of Osaka, a press conference was held to officially announce the fight involving undefeated Japanese WBC strawweight world champion Kazuto Ioka (7-0, 5KOs, 22 years old and Ioka Boxing Gym in Osaka), who returns on August 10 in Japan to face #1 WBC ranked, NABF champion Juan Hernandez (18-1, 13KOs, 24 years old and from Mexico City). The Teiken Boxing Gym officially announced the fight involving WBA super bantamweight champion Akifumi Shimoda (23-2-1, 10 KOs), who travels to America to defend against undefeated Rico "Suavecito" Ramos (19-0, 10 KOs) on July 9 in Atlantic City. The fight will be televised by HBO as the co-feature to Paul Williams vs. Erislandy Lara.
A press conference was held at the Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo to officially announce that a deal was finalized for a fight between Venezuelan two division champion Jorge Linares (30-1, 19 KOs) and Francisco "Volcano" Cordero (24-1, 16 KOs) of Barranquilla, Colombia. The fight happens on May 28 in Mazatlan, Mexico for the vacant lightweight Fedelatin title, which is endorsed by the World Boxing Association. Linares is gunning for a third world divisional title. In October 2010 in Tokyo, Linares stopped former two-time champion Jesus "El Matador" Chavez in four rounds.
WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka wants to make history by becoming the first Japanese boxer to become a unified world champion. He wants to capture the IBF and WBA titles in 2011. The first target on his list is IBF champion Steve Molitor of Canada. The only issue is the IBF's lack of recognition in Japan. The Japanese Boxing Board only recognizes the WBC and the WBA in the country. Nishioka may look to get an exception from the JBC to stage a fight with Molitor.
WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (16-0, 13KOs) was scheduled to make the third defense of his title on January 10 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan. The opponent, WBA-interim champion Jorge Solis (40-2-2, 29KOs) of Mexico, has withdrawn due to illness. The promoters are hoping to schedule the event to late January or February. It's being reported that Solis has pneumonia.
