The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association has decided to order the negotiations for the mandatory fight between featherweight super champion, Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16KOs) and the regular champion Nicholas Walters (23-0, 19KOs). Both parties were notified and they were given 120 days to fight, that is to say, before April 5, 2014.
Once again the World Boxing Association will use its half point evaluation in a title fight. This time will be in the female title fight between the flyweight champion Susi Kentikian and challenger Simona Galassi, this Saturday at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. The referee of the fight will be Jesus Morata Garcia from Spain, while the scorecards will be in the hands of Ove Ovesen, Mark Nelson and Oliver Palomo. WBA supervisor will be George Martínez.
Contrary to some of the information widely circulated, the World Boxing Association informs that the fight between Eleider Álvarez from Colombia and Thomas Oosthuizen from South Africa is not sanctioned by their organization. The fight is scheduled to take place in Canada on January 18 in the light heavyweight division and has not been sanctioned by the WBA Championships Committee, so no WBA title will be at stake.
The Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association is moving forward with the purse bid for the promotional rights to the Bantamweight title fight between the super champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno and the 'regular' champion Koki Kameda. The bid will take place on Tuesday December 10, at 11 am at the World Boxing Association Headquarters located at Avenida Aquilino de la Guardia in Marbella, Panamá. Minimumweight world champion, Ayaka Miyao of Japan, retained her World Boxing Association defeating the Filipino challenger Gretchen Abaniel at the Kokakuen Hall in Tokyo. The Japanese was victorious on her third defense beating Abaniel by a ten round unanimous decision of the judges cards 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94. Her record improved to 16-5-1 while her opponent falls to 13-4. It was Miyao's third fight of 2013, and the other two were also won by unanimous decision.
Former Venezuelan champion, Johan Pérez is already in the United States to fight this Saturday night against former champion Paul Spadafora, for the 140 pounds interim belt of the World Boxing Association. Both fighters are waiting for the weighing ceremony and for the opening bell of the fight in West Virginia. The local Commission appointed Charlie Fitch as referee and the judges who will score the fight are Glenn Feldman, James Tiu and Rex Agim. Pérez has a record of 17-1 and Spadafora 48-0-1.
On Friday a press conference was held in Caracas to announce the super lightweight interim title fight between the Venezuelan Johan Pérez and Paul Spadafora on November 30 in United States. Pérez was accompanied by the President of the World Boxing Association, Gilberto Mendoza, his trainer Jorge Zerpa and his manager, Rafael Moron. Regarding his WBA world title bout, Mendoza encouraged Perez: "Johan has the mission to rescue what he let go. That's yours for your effort. "Be the Johan you can be", in reference to the interim belt he lost in Mexico with Pablo César Cano.
The Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association announced their resolution with respect to the aftermath of Denis Lebedev and Guillermo Jones. On May 17th in Moscow, Jones stopped Lebedev to capture the WBA world championship. Afterwards, RUSADA (Russian Anti-Doping Association) announced that Jones testing positive for a banned diuretic. The WBA has ordered both fighters to have a rematch, with October 23rd set down as the deadline date to reach an agreement or a purse bid will take place. Jones was also given a six-month retroactive suspension, which expires on November 17, 2013.
The World Boxing Association announced the names of the officials that will participate in the title fight between Scott Quigg and Yoandri Salinas, this Saturday at the O2 Arena of London. Italy's Giuseppe Quartarone will referee the battle for the WBA 122-pound belt. The supervisor will be Aurelio Fiengo, while the judges in charge of the scores are Jean-Louis Legland of France, Leszek Jankowiak of Poland and North America's Rubén Garcia.
World Boxing AssociationmMiddleweight champion Gennady Golovkin requested a special permit, with the WBA, to defend his title against Curtis Stevens on November 2 at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. Golovkin needed permission from the sanctioning body to move forward with an optional fight before he makes his mandatory defense against the official challenger Martin Murray.
