Promoter Ben Shalom said Chris Eubank losing the rematch to Conor Benn cost him a fight with Canelo Alvarez.

Eubank Jnr, 35-4 (25 KOs), has long sought the most lucrative fight in and around his weight, against the Mexican legends, and had he defeated Benn once more in November, Shalom said he would have landed Canelo – and he still thinks that fight can happen.

“He would have, listen, it’s funny how boxing works, but had he beaten Conor Benn, that fight was nailed on,” Shalom told BoxingScene. “It’s a big thing to have lost, but I still believe that fight will happen. I really do.”

Could it be next, with both fighters coming off losses?

“You never know,” Shalom added. “It might work. We're focused on the next fight. It might work out. But, yeah, we'll see.”

Eubank Jnr has, since the Benn rematch, revealed he had been fighting ongoing health ailments and that while he would fight on, he would not box until he was fully recovered.

Though Benn has urged Eubank to retire, Boxxer’s Shalom remains certain that he will promote the 36-year-old again.

“Absolutely,” said Shalom. “I was with him a couple of weeks ago, and I want to see him at super middleweight, and I want to see him fit – probably four or five months away from him getting the treatment, finishing everything that he needs to do. And I'm just excited for him to be back because we've had five, six, maybe seven fights, actually, with him, and every one is box office. Every one is huge. Every one is a circus. But I want to see the very best of him, and that's going to be a 168, and he needs that time to recover, which he's getting now. He's had the procedures and the treatments that he should have got after the first fight against Conor Benn, but he didn't have the time. So, yeah, he's doing that, and he'll be back this year.”
