MatchroomShakur Stevenson’s co-promoter and long-time ally, Antonio Leonard, has disputed claims made by O’Shaquie Foster that he regularly got the better of Stevenson in sparring sessions.
Foster, who defeated Raymond Ford on Saturday night, is chasing a showdown with Stevenson who watched the WBC junior lightweight champion’s majority-decision victory from ringside. The pair then raged at each other inside the ring.
Afterwards, Foster claimed to have had his way with Stevenson in behind-closed-doors training sessions. Not true, says Leonard.
“It is just like Shakur said, he whup you every time in sparring,” Leonard said in a direct address to Foster via FightHype. “He made you quit, you know it and I know the truth. I’m willing to tell the world the truth.
“No, you can never beat Shakur in a fight, or in sparring. I been round the best three fighters that I’ve ever witnessed in the world and that’s Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward and Shakur Stevenson.
“You’re not even in the conversation my brother.
“Every time you and Shakur sparred, you got whupped, you wanted to quit. You know and the whole world knows, after last night, you’re not in the conversation with a Shakur Stevenson. You couldn’t beat him even if you was dreaming about beating him.
“Shakur Stevenson is the best pound for pound fighter in the world… You don’t come close, not ever.”
