Former champion Amir "King" Khan's bravery has gotten him in trouble in the past. The Olympic silver medalist has been stopped twice in his career and been down in other fights when he was greedy and stayed in the pocket too long.
The 28-year-old said that when you face opponents that you are supposed to shine against, you are almost obliged to take chances.
The Bolton native said that is what makes this fight so different. He said that fans will see a more disciplined version of himself who follows the game plan when he faces Canelo Alvarez on May 7th on HBO pay-per-view.
"When you are fighting guys you are supposed to beat you need to have that warrior mentality. You are the guy that is supposed to win and need to be the warrior and win every round, throw the most shots and land the most shots, throwing the big power shots," Khan told BoxingScene.com.
"In this fight we are not going in as the favorite so I am going to stick to my game plan. I am going to do anything it takes to win the fight. We have to be smart in this fight as it is a tough fight. It is not going to be easy.
"I can't make the same mistakes as the previous fights where used to get stuck in there too much. This time I am going back to the old days when I was a young fighter and I threw the right shots at the right time."
Khan, who will be moving up eight pounds for the fight, said that all of the pressure is on Alvarez, the WBC middleweight champion and he can just concentrate on training while Canelo is busy handling media requests.
"I think it's great to be an underdog and not have all the media stuff and I can just concentrate on training and Canelo has to do all the media obligations," said Khan.
