Joseph Parker is always down for a good fight. Whether they were former/current world champions, highly ranked contenders, or an up-and-coming prospect, Parker fought them all.
The list of names he’s taken on includes Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, Joe Joyce, Hughie Fury, and Derek Chisora. He didn’t win them all, but Parker is proud of his resume. While it doesn’t need any more polishing, Parker believes his CV will add the most dangerous name possible.
Deontay Wilder specializes in separating his opponents from their consciousness. The suddenness of his power has Parker (33-3, 23 KOs) on high alert. Sure Joshua is a big, strong guy with more than respectable power - and of course Joyce was the first man to stop him dead in his tracks but fighting Wilder will be unlike anything Parker has ever experienced.
“Yes, he will be the toughest,” explained Parker to Boxing News. “He’s knocked out everyone he’s fought except for Tyson Fury. He’s very dangerous.”
Ultimately, getting decapitated is the exact outcome many are predicting. Parker though, believes he has a secret weapon up his sleeves. No, he hasn’t been working on a new knockout method. And no, Parker doesn’t plan on playing the cat-and-mouse game, avoiding Wilder’s right hand just long enough to win a decision.
It’s all about activity for the former champ. While Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) spent just two minutes in the ring in nearly two years, Parker has racked up four consecutive fights, bagging wins in three of them. Having an active schedule, especially with both fighters being in their 30s, is the key ingredient to a win for Parker come Saturday night.
“For me, this year has been great because I’ve been keeping busy,” continued Parker. “I feel like I got good momentum. We’ll soon find out if that momentum is gonna pay off.”
