Undefeated heavyweight Hughie Fury believes he is ready to challenge for world titles, and has targeted WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Speaking to iFL TV at the weekend, the Manchester fighter discussed his ambitions to reach the next level and take on the belt-holders in the division.
“I’m ready to go. When I do fight for this title, I won’t be just a challenger, I’ll be winning it,” said the 22-year-old. “I think there are a lot of false champions out there who have had a belt given to them the easy way. I’ve had the awkward fights and these experience fights, I’m not playing games any more. I’ll take Wilder, I’ll take Joshua - I’ll take all these champions.”
Wilder won the WBC bauble in January 2015, defeating Bermane Stiverne over 12 rounds in Las Vegas.
“Listen, he’s done well because he’s world champion,” argued Fury, “but I still think he hasn’t fought anyone like me. If he wants it, it’s on!
“I want to achieve what I’ve always wished for - to be champion of the world. It’s destined in our blood. Tyson’s already done it, and I’m going to be next. I won’t stop until I get there.”
Fury has not fought since April, but was due to face Andy Ruiz in October before the Mexican withdrew from the proposed contest.
“My last opponents are all pulling out on me but they’re all good men, like Ruiz who’s fighting for a world title now [against Joseph Parker]. If these fights get offered to me I’m going to take them,” he added.
