On September 10th Gennady Golovkin defends his IBO/IBF/WBC/WBA middleweight titles against Kell Brook from the O2 Arena in London on HBO.

The hope is that Golovkin and Alvarez are headed towards a 2017 showdown.

Both camps have expressed an interest in fighting one more time before the end of the calendar year.

The question is can HBO accomodate their wishes?

"Anything can happen in boxing,"said Peter Nelson, the head of HBO Sports on Monday from the Forum in Inglewood, California, where a press conference was held to formally announce the Roman Gonzalez-Carlos Cuardas fight which will air on September 10th as part of a split-site tripleheader on the network.

Nelson further explained,"Because on the 10th and on the 17th, you don't know, guys get cut, guys get injured God-forbid. So we're going to evaluate it. But our plans as of right now - as those fighters have said they would like to fight three times in 2016 - and we're about trying to make those things come true.

"Both for them and for the fans."
