So what is Gennady Golovkin's opinion of the match-up between WBC middleweight belt-holder Saul Alvarez and Amir Khan that is scheduled for May 7th?
"It's not good for sport, boxing. No respect to boxing,"said Golovkin at the Conga Room at LA Live, where a Tuesday press conference was held to formally announce his April 23rd bout versus Dominic Wade at the Forum.
Like many other observers, Golokvin is of the belief that Canelo (46-1-1, 32KOs) is simply too big and strong for Khan (31-3, 19KOs) - who is moving up by eight pounds to take the fight at a 155-pound catch-weight.
"Yeah, Amir Khan, he's not bad...155 maybe looks good, much better. Maybe he has more speed, more physical but size is big difference," he opined.
But he wasn't completely ruling out an upset, adding - "OK, maybe in the future, Khan beats him and my situation I'm the mandatory challenger to him. People say,'Hey, Genna, you're very bad because he's small, you're very big.'
"But I need the fight, I need my green belt. Doesn't matter who fights me, 'Canelo', Khan, Wade,(Miguel) Cotto. I need chance, give me chance."
The WBC ruled earlier this year that after one voluntary defense to begin 2016, that Golovkin and Alvarez must enter into negotiations for a fight. But it's still no guarantee that Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions will actually consummate the match-up for the fall.
When asked to give a message to Alvarez, Golovkin just merely shrugged and stated - "This is business, terrible business. I'm a boxer, of course I'm ready. The question is for promotion, not for me."
