Even if it wont be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September, Tom Loeffler is making plans for Gennady Golovkin - who is now the WBC middleweight champion - to fight in the early fall.
"'Canelo' is certainly the number one choice but at the same time if a fight with (Billy Joe) Saunders is makeable, that's a great fight. If a fight with Danny Jacobs is makeable that's a great fight, a fight with Chris Eubank Jr if that's makeable that's a great fight,"said Loeffler in the aftermath of Alvarez vacating the WBC title and handing the belt over to Golovkin.
"So there's a lot of great fights out there. Even Gilberto Ramirez ( WBO super middleweight titlist) is a great fight and Bob (Arum) has expressed a lot of interest in that fight,"continued Loeffler.
"So while 'Canelo's a priority I have to see what the best options are out there for Gennady and if we can't make the fight with 'Canelo' then we'll have to go in a different direction but he'll be fighting somebody in September."
And after that, Loeffler will seek another fight to before the end of 2016 for Golovkin, who now holds the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles.
"The plan has always been three fights. We had a little bit of a delay, we were supposed to go in February but that got pushed back because of the negotiations with 'Canelo' to make the one voluntary defense and Gennady will be upset with me if he doesn't fight three times this year."
Negotiations are officially dead in terms of making Alvarez-Golovkin but Loeffler is a realist, while still pursuing that fight, he still has to look for other more realistic options for the time being.
"I've done that balancing act since he knocked out (Grzegorz) Proksa on HBO. Every HBO appearance that he's had I've had two and three opponents lined up just in case somebody wasn't able to fight on that particular date,"he explained to BoxingScene.com."So just the reality of negotiating 'Triple G' fights. People aren't really chomping at the opportunity to face him."
