Former super middleweight champion and Sky Sports pundit Carl Froch is very confident that WBA, IBO, IBF heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) will defeat WBC champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs).

A Joshua vs. Wilder unification is one of the biggest fights to make in boxing.

Both boxers have been in action in the last few weeks - with both stopping their opponents in mandatory defesnes.

Earlier this month, Wilder blasted out Bermane Stiverne in a single round in their ordered rematch which took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

And late last month, Joshua came away with a big win after stopping Carlos Takam before a crowd of 78,000 at Principality in Cardiff, Wales.

Froch believes the physical size difference will certainly become a factor in the fight.

Joshua was 254-pounds of muscle for his last bout, while Wilder was also muscular but over 30-pounds less at 220.

And Froch believes that Wilder's wild style of punches, at times in a windmill like manner, will leave him wide open for Joshua's power punch counters.

At the same time, Froch does not overlook the deadly punching power of Wilder and openly admits the American banger is the bigger one-punch knockout artist between the two champions.

Froch is very firm in his opinion that the fight with Wilder "has to happen" at some point in 2018.

“The big fight for him [Anthony Joshua] is Deontay Wilder – that fight will have to happen,” Froch told Drivetime. “Eddie Hearn has told us that fight will happen in 2018, so he better give it to us – he probably won’t like me saying this – but he said it’s going to happen, the fans want to see it happen – so it’s going to have to happen.

“I think Joshua might get away with one or two more fights before that, but that will be it, and then we’ll know. I think Joshua beats Deontay Wilder – he’s too big for him. Wilder is really loose and opens up with really wide shots. Joshua is very clever. And boxing beats that Wilder way of swinging and that wind-milling. He’ll just stay down the pipe, throw a nice straight one-two, walk Deontay Wilder onto a shot and absolutely frighten him if he boxes like that.

"But Wilder has got that dangerous punch. He’s a one-punch knockout man - he can bang hard – and if he catches Joshua on the chin, it’s a hit, and that’s what’s so fascinating.”
