BoxingScene.com recently caught up with former world champion Fernando "Feroz" Vargas.  Last month the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame announced that Vargas would be one of their class of 2020 inductees.

The Oxnard, California native was an all-action fighter who came up in an era brimming with talent in the 154 pound weight division and fought all of the top level competition.

Boxing has become much more fragmented in it's current state with many big fights that would require promoters to work together not coming to fruition.  Vargas, who was promoted by Main Events, believes that if the fighters really want certain fights to happen that they will happen regardless of promoter affiliation.

”The thing is the fights can be made if both sides really want to fight. At the end of the day if they want to fight it is going to get done. If they don’t really want to fight or are going to be crying over who gets more money or who deserves more money or who walks out first or whatever the factors are. At this point that is where they are at,” Vargas stated.

Vargas was also asked to give his take on Alvarez and what he has achieved in the sport.

The three-division world champion is currently in most boxing pundit's top 3 on their pound-for-pound lists but the 29-year-old Mexican also has his share of critics.

“Look, Canelo is the man right now. He has fought everybody. His last fight versus the Krusher (Sergey Kovalev) was amazing. What else can you say? The kid works hard and is a great champion.  You can’t discredit him at all. He definitely is one of the all-time Mexican greats with what he has already done in the sport,” Vargas told BoxingScene.com.
