Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya was one of the closest men to Friday's face to face between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs, and he was among the many who had to separate them as the boxers nearly brawled during the staredown.
Canelo and Jacobs will collide on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, for the IBF, WBA, WBC middleweight titles. DAZN will be streaming the fight.
When the two boxers made weight, and then went face to face, the two boxers were butting heads when Canelo shoved Jacobs - which then led to a pull-apart and a lot of verbal threats from both men.
De La Hoya believes Jacobs looked very nervous and might have been acting out of fear during the scuffle.
He believes Canelo has already won the mental war of the contest.
"The weigh-in is the final moment for both boxers to get into the head of their opponent. I saw Jacobs looking very nervous. Canelo came out strong, wanting to fight, confident, and for me Jacobs has to sleep at night thinking about the moment when the fight begins... Jacobs will be nervous and thinking about the weigh-in. For me, Canelo is already 1-0," said De La Hoya to ESPN Deportes.
"[Jacobs] lost the first round mentally, emotionally.. he will think about the weigh-in, not the strategy. He will place more pressure on himself, and things will go through his head. The only pressure that Canelo has is to give his people a good show.
Finally, De La Hoya believes that Canelo has no limits, and that only fate will decide how far he'll able to reach.
"We have to win on Saturday, but there is no limit for Canelo Alvarez. He can stay at 160, 168 or 175 (pounds)," the Golden CEO stated.
