Everyone wants to see a middleweight unification between Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Last night Canelo landed a devastating right hook to knock out Amir Khan in the sixth round and claim the WBC middleweight title clash in Las Vegas .

After even opening rounds, Mexican Alvarez closed it in the sixth where he feigned a left jab before delivering a rattling hook to knock out his British opponent cold.

After several seconds, Khan came to his senses well after the bout had been decided.

Alvarez, the former WBA and WBC super welterweight champion who lost both world titles on a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, entered the night as a heavy favorite.

Khan (31-4, 19 knockouts), though, seemed to control the first couple of rounds with his hand speed.

The Mexican power-puncher caught up with Khan in the third round and began to cut off the ring and push his opponent against the ropes. It all led to the crushing closer where 25-year-old Alvarez again showed the brute strength that has now carried him to a record of 47-1-1 with 33 knockouts.

Following the fight, Canelo's promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions baited Golovkin.

"Golovkin, make sure you answer your phone in the morning because we'll be calling," said De La Hoya. "That's the fight the fans want and the fight Canelo wants. And those fans who were turned off by Mayweather-Pacquiao will fall in love with boxing again."

Canelo wants the fight at a catch-weight of 155-pounds, while Golovkin wants the full middleweight limit of 160.

De La Hoya made it clear that Golovkin would not be calling the shots.

"There's no doubting who the star is. We have four aces and they have a pair of twos," De La Hoya said.
