Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is applying the pressure on WBC middleweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs). De La Hoya is trying to get Cotto in the ring with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO) on May 2nd of next year.

Cotto stated in a recent BoxingScene.com article: "I'm hoping answer, because we already sat with people from Golden Boy and we are now waiting to see what they are going to tell us. I'll go [in whatever direction] is the most beneficial to myself, so now I am just waiting. I just want the best for my career. I did not put any conditions on Canelo, I'm just asking for what is right for me, based on so I've [achieved and earned] all these years. They have the ball in their court, so they know what to do with it."

De La Hoya countered back on Twitter: "Canelo has conceded on all demands including moving from [demanding a] 50/50 [split]. the ball has been in Miguel Cotto's court for more than 6 weeks."

Earlier today, BoxingScene's Rey Colon spoke with Cotto's legal adviser Gaby Peñagarícano, who said there is no agreement as of yet to face Canelo - and he also didn't rule out the possibility of a rematch with WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. for May 2.

"The reality is that there is no agreement yet. None. For any fight. We are in talks, but an announcement that we reached an agreement for that fight [with Canelo] - it is not true. And a fight with Mayweather has certainly not been ruled out," Penagaricano said.
