Middleweight Julio César Chávez Jr. is getting his plans ready for the training camp to prepare for his title shot on June 4. Chavez will take on WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik of Germany. When the subject was approached, Chavez threw a few barbs in the direction of his Mexican rival, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who won the WBC 154-pound title last Saturday when he beat Matthew Alvarez.
"On June 4 in Los Angeles, I will face a true champion. Sebastián Zbik is undefeated, and spent three years as the interim champion. I've already stated in the past, we don't deceive the people. I'm going to be a real champion. I won't select the opponent," Chavez said.
"On April 1, I'm going to Los Angeles to train with Freddie Roach, and I should win this fight, which I expect to be tough. The month of June is very important for the Chavez family, since my dad is entering the Boixng Hall of Fame in Canastota."
Chavez also responded to a recent report where Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, said a fight between Chavez and Alvarez was not in the immediate plans.
"We are willing to face him at an intermediate-weight of 157-pounds in September. Saul and I, we are the most popular boxers in Mexico, and we must face reach other because the people are asking for this match," Chavez said.
