Eddy Reynoso, the trainer of WBC middleweight world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) exploded on various members of the press who continue to criticize his fighter.
Canelo will defend his title against Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) on May 7th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds.
He capture his WBC title last November with a twelve round unanimous decision over Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto at the Mandalay Bay.
If Canelo wins the fight, he has to make a mandatory defense against IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who first has to get past his own mandatory in Dominic Wade on April 23rd at The Forum in Los Angeles.
A lot of critics are placing the Golovkin on a higher level over Canelo, and that really angers Reynoso. There is already friction when it comes to making a fight with Golovkin. Canelo is demanding a catch-weight of 155, while Golovkin refuses to drop any lower than the middleweight limit of 160-pounds.
As the mandatory challenger, Golovkin has no reason to go lower than 160. If Canelo refuses to fight him, then he will be stripped and Golovkin (who holds the WBC interim belt) will be crowned as the full champion.
"Golovkin has not beat anyone. Who has Golovkin beaten? Look at the records and compare the true quality of a boxer. We began Saul's career by fighting opponents who would teach him something, and he learned from each fight - because that is the basis to become a world champion and to achieve these levels against the best," Reynoso told ESPN Deportes.
"To us, nobody has given us anything. Saul has been gaining with every win, training very hard and based on his fights has earned his place in boxing.
