Canelo Alvarez has opened the door, a little bit at least, to the possibility of fighting Hamzah Sheeraz in the future.

Sheeraz, 23-0-1 (19 KOs), claimed the vacant WBO super middleweight title on May 23 when he blew away the overmatched Alem Begic in Egypt. Before that, last July, knocked out Edgar Berlanga in five rounds.

Alvarez, meanwhile, is readying for his return after losing all four 168lb titles to Terence Crawford, who later retired, last September. He is looking to bounce back from his only loss in the super middleweight division when he challenges Christian Mbilli for the WBC title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on September 12.

Canelo, 63-3-2 (39 KOs), had not been thought keen to take on Sheeraz but he has, while in conversation with The Ring, offered the Englishman some hope that the fight could occur down the road.

First, though, there is a condition. And it would appear that the Mexican is again plotting a route to regain all four belts. The 35-year-old wants Sheeraz to face IBF beltholder, Osleys Iglesias, and then he'd consider facing the winner.

"I think they need to fight each other and then I can fight the winner," he said.

"That's the most smart thing they can do. We all need to earn what we deserve, and they need to earn it.

"I'm not saying they don't deserve it, they deserve it. That's why they are champions or number ones or whatever, but they need to fight each other and then, after my fight, we'll see."
