Former two division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez says there is no comparison between his fight against Amir Khan, and the upcoming battle between Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin and Kell Brook.
Back in May, Khan moved up from the welterweight limit of 147 to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge Canelo for the WBC middleweight title. Canelo won the contest with a brutal knockout in six rounds.
On September 10th at the O2 Arena in London, Golovkin will defend his WBC/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight belts against Brook at the full middleweight limit of 160. Brook moves up be thirteen pounds for the contest.
Canelo is back in action again on September 17th, when he challenges WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Golovkin and his team feel there is no comparison between the two fights as well, because they view Brook as a bigger fighter who will fill out at the middleweight limit. They also felt Khan, who was knocked out at 135 and 140, was unable to take a solid punch at the much higher weight.
Canelo has a different viewpoint. He views Golovkin vs. Brook as a physical mismatch - with Brook, who holds the IBF welterweight title, placed at a much bigger disadvantage by heading up to 160.
"[The two fights are] very different. Amir Khan moved up from welterweight to super welterweight, a pound more [than the 154 limit]. Here we have [Brook] going up by two divisions and that is a lot more [weight], that is very different. The only thing that I can say is that's not good to talk about it," Canelo told ESPN Deportes.
