LOS ANGELES --- Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was eager to erase the memory of the first loss of his career to Floyd Mayweather when he scored a 10th-round TKO over Alfredo Angulo on March 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Canelo wants to build on that momentum when he takes on Cuban Erislandy Lara on July 12 at the MGM Grand on Showtime PPV.
"First of all, my mentality is that of a champion, a winner," Canelo said at the recent news conference at the El Pueblo Historical Monument. "I'm going to win this fight. I have all the qualities and the arsenal to be able to win this fight and I'm going to prepare for him."
Canelo was looking to make a statement against Angulo. Should we expect the same kind of aggression he showed in his victory over Angulo when he faces Lara?
"I was hungry," Canelo said. "I was hungry to get back in the ring. I wanted to be out there and I was just happy to be in the ring."
